Highway Bad Leak Dumped!!
2008 acura tl 5 A/T
Was driving on the highway. Looked in to the back rear view mirror and seen a bunch of smoke. Holy ****!!! I pulled over immediately and shut the a/c off thinking maybe it's my belt that looks funny (turned brown after 3,000 miles) but was changed 13,000 miles ago at the time of the 105 service at the dealer. I turned off the car popped the hood and lo and behold the unicorn aka the tl was taking a dump of blue and red fluid. I was thirsty at the time so the coolant looked like blue cool aid. Back to Holy ****!!! Shivers allover body thinking of costs. Towed to shop now the question what could it be? Shop looking at it tomorrow.

Just sounds like radiator broke dumping Copland and transmission fluid. Not too big of a deal considering you stopped immediately to prevent overheating.
New DENSO radiator on Amazon
New hoses,
New coolant,
New ATF fluid.

My trans cooler broke a few months ago... If thats what it is... Was in the middle of nowhere but thanks for CAA. If the case you will have water in your tranny so many drain n fills to fix it... A little bit of water can ruin a tranny given enough time.

Thanks for the reassurance thoiboy. First thing i did in the tow truck was acurazine and you replyed quick.

Was it a J32A3 with A/T? Whats the likeliness of a mixture of fluid? I thought only the type S had trans coolers.

No need to answer questions in picture. Never knew trans fluid cooled in radiator. I had a 1993 corolla before (car was built couple years after my DOB) bought from first owner. Tank i say!!!
In my days radiators cooled coolant fluid only.

Had the same thing happen in my moms RDX. However she not being a car person tried to drive it home, it made the 15 mile trip home however the damage to the transmission was done. Lost 3rd gear. Had to be rebuilt to the tune of $4000.

Wow! So i got the radiator fixed. I couldn't find a denso radiator so i went with carquest looks similar i don't know if it performs similar to oem but it works for now. I would have had to wait 2 weeks for a denso and getting a ride to work would have sucked next to my old man. I ended up losing 5 quarts of tran fluid and about 2 gallons of coolant. I'm running prestone for now till i get some time to grab some blue acura cool aid lol. When walking up to my car now it has this smell of fluid that makes the car smell very unique from the outside. Ran it thru the car wash 2 twice yesterday so it did help degrease it . I just feel bad for the person behind me lmao

Hope you used Honda ATF-DW1 at least! (unless you're a Manuel transmission)

What colour is your trans fluid? Mine turned to a sorta pinkish foamy substance similar to maybe a strawberry milkshake. Altogether now I've done about 6 or 7 drain n fills to get nearly all the water out and back to looking normal.
If water (i.e. your coolant mixture) got in the trans it needs to be dealt with.

My ATF cooler did this three weeks ago as well (2008 Base TL 180K miles). Point A is into the cooler. My ATF has an awful/burnt smell also. I purchased two gallons of ATF to rinse out the transmission. I used Valvoline Max Life ATF from Walmart. I removed all of the original ATF cooler hoses and pipes as they were rusty and put a Magnefine filter in line with the transmission to catch any bad particles and added a B&M atf cooler to replace the broken one. I plan on replacing the filter and ATF fluid after a while to remove what ever I can. I had to use several cans of brake cleaner to remove the ATF from the engine surface as it will smell and smoke if you run the motor.

i checked when changing fluid their was no mix in either the radiator or the trans fluid. My trans fluid is a nice light pink. But i still have that pungent smell of trans fluid under the car and around the car. I did make an appointment with my honda dealer to get the coolant changed because i used prestone. I would do it my self but im allready beat from changing the radiator and this weekend im going out of town so i need it asap.
