Fan not working

Hi. I've been trying to solve why my fan won't turn on EVER (except for using A/C - it works fine then). So I have a 2007 TL Type-S and the fan that is supposed to cool off engine won't initiate, even after driving in 90s+. The only way to make the fan work is to turn on A/C (then both fans work just fine - means the fan is not broken, something else is). I was thinking maybe relays? I didn't know which one to change so I did all 5 of them Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet OEM from Acura and still nothing. The temp gauge won't EVER go above sailboat (it is at about 45% of 'full' even when driving without any fans on on a 90+ degree day). So I'm guessint either thermostat or coolant temperature sensor?

Why are you starting a new thread for the same problem?

Can't change/edit posts, the other was about replacing the relays and nobody there was actually able to tell me which relay to do... so I did all of them, that didn't fix the problem, I WOULD change the thread title to FAN NOT WORKING if this forum would let me, sooo...

OEM Acura TL 2007 CONTROL UNIT (ENGINE ROOM) ('07) parts
Near as I can tell, your fan control relay is #18 ( 39794-S10-003 ). Based on your picture, you did not replace that relay....

And indeed, it could be the temp sensor (#25) in this diagram:

I'd replace both to play it safe.

I would change this one if I knew where it was located under my hood, I asked in the other thread but no one would know that.

Call your dealer's service department and ask them where it's located. They can pull up better diagrams.

So I found that small relay box under my hood and replaced both relays, ALSO replaced the coolant temperature sensor... and no change. Still the fan won't kick in. Any other ideas what it might be?

Bad connection in the coolant temp sensor wiring/circuit or bad MICU?

The radiator fan on my 2011 TL never comes on either. I currently have the control board out to test the relays. Has anyone ever seen their radiator fan come on? The A/C condenser fan works just fine.

2011 is not the third generation of TLs (wrong subforum).

Yes. Sorry about not posting an update.

Replaced 5 relays and coolant temperature sensor (as I stated in previous posts) and now the fan is working just fine (the post before is incorrect > I did not heat up the engine enough for the fan to engage).

Is the Temp sensor on the back side and bottom of the radiator? Does anyone know where I can find the thermostat (picture would be helpful). Thanks in advance.

follow the upper radiator hose to the engine and the thermostat is right inside that housing. 2 bolts 10mm I believe hold it on. I usually take the battery out and remove the air cleaner upper housing to get better access... Couple different lengths of extensions and a magnetic grapper tool also help.

thanks for the reply. I replaced the temp sensor that was located near the thermostat and that fixed my fan issue. Good to know where the Thermostat is though for future reference.

Well, not so fast. BOTH fans did come off with the AC turned on however, with the 105 degree Texas heat, I noticed my temp gauge was climbing. Pulled over and looked, only the AC compressor fan turning and not the radiator fan. I know the fan motor is good because I've confirmed it with a new/working fan.

Next recommendation? I think there there is another sensor located at the bottom of the radiator. Could THAT be the culprit?

(Weird that both AC and Rad fans would turn on with the engine cold but not when it gets hot).

So I've done a little more investigation and I'm really confused by what I've found:

I turned the AC on with the car engine off....BOTH fans spinning at low speed.
I started the car with AC on and....both fans remained on UNTIL the AC compressor turned on; at which point the compressor side kicked on to full speed and the radiator fan turned off.
The only way I'm able to get the radiator side fan to work is with the engine cold and the AC turned on/engine off.

I've already replaced the temp sensor that is located on the engine and I've purchased the temperature sensor that installs at the bottom of the radiator (will replace that this weekend).

Any suggestions?

Well, I'm back (again). I replaced the sensor on the radiator and that did not change anything.

One thing I noticed when I changed the temp sensor next to the engine block is that no coolant flowed out when removing it. Not sure if that's normal when the engine is cool.

**Waiting for someone with more car knowledge than myself to chime in**

What El_Cheapo wrote. Here's a little help. All of "No. ## (###A)" on the schematic are fuses.
