2006 TL ignition buzz sound

Hello all

I have a 2006 acura tl base model, it's a 2nd hand car got from a acura dealer. I noticed a buzz sound when I turn my key to start the car 2 month in to my ownership. Took it back to the dealer, they told me to try to turn my key a little faster, it should be okay. However, I replaced my battery anyways on my own cost ( a gel battery) the problem went away fro a while, now it starting to doing it again. Buzzing sound it from my left side of the dash board or my wheel. Wondering if anyone else have a similar issue or what is the problem. thank you very much

Mine has the same issue. It sounds like a relay arcing however i haven't had a chance to troubleshoot. I did notice there's a TSB for fuel pump relay...

Same thing. It's just from turning the key too slow and hitting that "inbetween" point. Mine just did it today but it's always when I turn super slow or not quite far enough.

Guys, I think this is normal because my last 2 cars were a 2002 Honda Civic LX 4AT and a 2006 Honda Accord EX-L 4cyl 5AT and had the same exact buzzing sound..

Does anyone have a clue what this is or a fix? Mine was doing this about once a week. Now it's buzzing everytime I start the car. Sounds like electricity in a transformer. Think it's a relay going bad.

Mine has the same issue. I got my TL on the 5th of this month and I noticed the noise while at the dealer , I told them about it n I'm taking it tomorrow for a diagnosis and repair if any . I'll post any and all info relating to this mysterious sound based on what the tech says

It doesn't matter if I turn the key slow or fast. I still hear the buzzing sound everytime before the engine turns. I still have a used car warranty on the car so I have made an appointment. Be nice to know where this sound is coming from.

Looking forward to the results. Mine seems to be coming from near the left side vent.

OK, Im getting my car serviced for the strange noise, seems like the tech knew right away what the issue was as soon as he heard the buzz, looks like its the starter cuz he is replacing it

Does it sound like yours is coming from inside the car or under the hood? I wonder if this is another case of the dealer not knowing what they're doing and throwing parts at it.

The sound was coming from under the hood, could be that they're just throwing parts in it lol let's see if it still makes it when he finishes. Stand by for update...

In that case it probably is the starter. Most of the complaints in these threads are from a relay type noise in the interior of the car when the key is turned slowly. Mine just did it again yesterday. Sounds like it's right behind the left vent.

Hmmm , yeah mie was from the hood. tech just finished and started her up n no buzzing sound , he repeated it 4 times and still no buzzing noise. guess it was the starter. let's see if it doesn't come back in a few days.(knock on wood)

Mine started doing it after I added my after market fog lights months ago. I've unplugged the battery, checked all fuses, checked cables and it still sounds like a screeching buzz coming from near the interior fuse panel. It almost sounds like a giant spark jumping across something, but no issues with driving. My voltage is still the same/stable,car still starts, nobody else has noticed so I'm just going to run with it until the car won't start. Glad to know I'm not alone out there with this issue.

I see this is an old thread, but with no real answers yet. I have an 05 TL base, and when I am slowly turning the key from Pos I to Pos II it makes an electric buzz sound (like an electrical short). I took it to the Acura dealership (My car came with an extended warranty) but they told me that all TLs make that sound.
However, I have two buddies at work, one with an 05 and the other an 06 and neither one makes the noise mine makes at start up.
It is def coming from the under dash fuse box on the drivers side, but I have replaced several fuses and relays and still makes the noise.

I wonder if this is related in any way to Acura TSB 05-013 - Saftey Recall on Fuse Box.
Any ideas???

Way to whip the dead horse, but I have the same exact issue in my 06 TL. Turn key, buzz, buzz, buzz, no start. Try again, no start, try again no start. You all get the point, I think it's actually the ignition switch and not the starter. Here is my temporary, but very, very ghetto fix. I bought a "push-start" button off eBay for a couple bucks and wired it straight to battery and starter. I just turn my key to "on" and push the button, starts every time. So I think it's the ignition switch! I have yet to order the $40 part to fix it because my ghetto fix is working. I'm sure I'll get flamed, but it works.

lol for the first few days of this buzzing/no start issue, I had an alligator clip wire I had hooked up to the starter and had to pop my hood and jump the starter to the battery to start the car. Sooo embarrassing in public places.

Another reason this site is great! I have been experiencing the same thing on my 2004 TL with 205,000 miles. It usually occurs on hot days and radiates left of the speedometer. Sounds like a 70s pickup truck key reminder...

If the buzzing sounds like it's coming from the left kick panel area, it's a sign that the starter cutout relay is receiving an under-voltage. The most likely culprits in this case would be the battery, battery connections or the ignition switch.

3GNBPTL, I had the same exact problem. It was intermittent at first but then it did it more and more til it just didn't start anymore. For those first few days I was using a fork on the starter to jump it. How embarrassing! But then I bought a push start button from the auto parts store and have been using it now for 5 years! I'm ready to finally replace the ignition switch now. I had replaced the starter when it first started happening but it didn't solve the issue. Replaced the relay and still no start. Just buzzing sound from relay. So I'm pretty sure it's the ignition switch now. We'll see. Does anyone know if replacing the ignition switch requires new keys?

No, the ignition switch is actually part #9 in this diagram. It's an easy DIY:

OEM Acura TL 2004 COMBINATION SWITCH parts

Check out this thread starting at post #97. You can PM vgorous and ask him for DIY hints.

+1 for Ignition switch - the buzzing is the start path relay that as stated above is not getting enough voltage to stay up so it oscillates back an forth. Replacing the ignition switch cost me $28 (Beck Arnley part form Rock Auto) exact match and probably an OEM manufacturer anyway...

The procedure is mentioned elsewhere as well:
Disconnect Battery
Remove three phillips screws on bottom of steering wheel cover.
Press in along on the top part of the cover seam to split it open and remove
Remove plug to ignition switch
Remove two phillips screws to switch
Slide out old and slide in new switch.
Reverse order to finish up.

I opened up the old switch - the copper contact surface looked suspect...

I wanted to say thank u for ur post i have been dealing with same issue with the buzz on the driver side kick panel in the fuse block, it wasn't the starter, it wasn't the relay a fuse or a bad key it was exactly this ignition switch, mine would work some times to crank the car but not all the times took ur advice and sure enough mine was burnt up as well, the (beck/Arnley part number is 201-1810) we got it put in and it works every time now! thank u again and hopefully this will help others in the future!

Buzz sound

My 2005 TL does the same thing, but not every time. It sounds as though it’s coming from the lower left dash on the inside. We have a new starter and alternator, so I don’t think that’s the issue. We are having a problem with the security system and cannot use the horn. If it gets bumped or the security system goes off, the fuse blows under the hood and you cannot put the car in gear unless you use the override or replace the fuse. Is there a possible connection?
