Wanted: Pics of TL w/hitch installed
I'm thinking about getting a hidden hitch installed since I do a lot of cycling and snowboarding.
If anyone here has gotten one installed, please post some pics so I can see how noticeable it is.
Here's what I had in mine:

there was a thread a LONG WHILE ago that someone welded on a hitch to the back of the car. but i would STRONGLY recommend against towing things, if u cycle i would strongly recommend just getting a removable bike rack for the top of the car. the TL is not at all meant to tow things, no matter how light or how heavy, it even specifically says do not tow with the TL in the manual. just my 2 cents but u can easily fuck up ur car

Thanks for the warning.
I hear what you're saying. And I have read through the posts.
That being said, I'm still interested in getting this done.
No one's got pics?

Another thing is when we go boarding, there's usually 4 of us plus boards plus luggage if we stay a couple of nights.

One on the right for me
i dont think you are going to find anyone with a hitch on their TL. Most places will not install a hitch and its nearly impossible to find one (most that do "work" on the TL are universal applications, or something of the sort.) I talked with a few distributors regarding a hitch for the new TL and they came up empty. Roof rack or trunk mount is the way to go.

I am getting one intalled either this week or next week. Draw tite just made a hitch that is meant for the TL so I am waiting for the place to get some of the them in stock. I also do a lot of skiing and biking. I also need to pull a waverunner on occasion. I don't think it will be a problem since the furthest I have to tow it is less than 1 mile. as for the skiing and biking I bought a hitch reciever bike rack that also carires skis. I found it on Ebay for $100 and it is made by Schwinn, I looked at the others (Thule and Yakima, but overall the scwhinn was a better buy. (with the yakima and thule you have to buy an additional ski /snowboard attachment. ) for the hitch you can also look on etrailer.com they have it in stock for $80 although you will have to pay additional for the wiring harness and installation. Anyway, when I get it installed I will try to post some pics. hopefully it will be soon since the weather is starting to get cold here in NY

If you punch in 04 TL, three hitches come up. Now I'm not saying that they were specifically designed for the TL, but then again I don't know how many hitches are designed for specific car models.
I already talked to my mechanic and he says it's no problem to install.

Thats news to me, though I havent checked for updates since the last hitch discussion. If you could please post some pics of the install, I'm interested to see how they work it out. Thanks.

05 TL Hitch Installed
Pretty Simple
1. Take plastic cover off underneath the car, 4 fasteners and 2 screws
2. Take the spare out, Drill two 1/2" Holes (use Hitch as Template
3. Bolt Hitch through 2 drilled holes and one through the "Tow Bar"
4. Cut a square groove in the plastic cover that was taken off in step one to fit over the hitch. reinstall
5. Have fun towing your waverunner so you can do this
I will post pictures of the Bike/Ski Rack that I bought which in my opinion is the best option if you ski / cycle

Trailer Hitch Installed, addt'l Pics
The Strength of the hitch comes from where it is bolted to the "Tow Bar" (above the square insert where the draw bar goes)
I just installed it today so I will post the pics of the bike rack as soon as it stops Raining.
Here are some pics,
I did NOT have to cut the bumper, the only part I cut was the plastic cover underneath the car to fit over the hitch (used a dremel)

thats how a lot of hitches are mounted to passenger cars now. usually they limit is around 2500 lbs with a 200 lb tongue weight.

silver05tl,
you got any pics of the back of the TL with just the hitch installed (no bike rack).
I wanna see how noticeable the hitch is by itself.

I've got the same hitch as silver05tl on my 05 Anthracite Grey TL. The black hitch is barely noticeable.
It's a Class 1 hitch and is definitely light duty. Mine is strictly for my bike rack. I don't even have a wiring harness.

I'm doing this modification so I can use a bike rack. When I have the rack and a bike on the car, it adds around 85 pounds.
rack = 40 pounds.
hitch rig = 20 pounds
bike = 25 pounds (guessing, it's carbon fiber so it's pretty light)
I'll post a thread on my install whenever I do it over the holiday. Seems pretty straight forward. Can someone remind me which type goo I'm supposed to use to seal the hitch holes in the trunk?
