Quanaman's Accord Love Thread (Accord starts on Pg 18)

Hello everyone!!

Some of you all may remember me from my past two TL's, an 04 Deep Green Pearl TL with a Type-S conversion and then later on my 08 Nighthawk Black Pearl 6MT Type-S. I sold the Type-S almost a year ago and have been out of the car world for a little while until recently.

I've been looking for another TL casually for a few months, but more seriously again for a few weeks now. I looked at a KBP 5AT 2008 Type-S but couldn't come to an agreement with the seller as it needed too much maintenance. Eventually I came across an NBP 2007 Type-S 6MT and couldn't pass it up. Most of its maintenance has been done and while it was a LITTLE rough around the edges, I am confident I can get it to where I want it

Told myself I'd never buy another black car again, but hey, when you see a well maintained 6MT TL-S you better jump on it

Here is my old Progress Thread

here is one of my favorite shots of my 04 DGP with TE37s:

I was so mad I missed the meet! I picked up the car the day of the meet and couldn't get tags and paperwork in order. Spent the day cleaning it instead!

Haha, my other builds went together pretty quickly, unfortunately that probably won't be the case with this one.

Plans so far are going to include XLR8 exhaust for sure since I have always wanted to put an exhaust on one of my cars. Also will definitely be doing aspec kit and coilovers. Haven't decided which coils yet though, I loved my Teins but I really don't want to deal with top hats again so I may go with another set this time around.

Other than that, probably all the usual 6MT mods like CC shifter and bushings and maybe a knob.

The focus now is on cleaning it up really well and a couple small maintenance things!

Got the car with 102k miles which is funny, cause I bought my last one with 103k

The car isn't really ready for any kind of photo shoot but I do have a couple of updated pictures I forgot to add.

Replaced the Purge control solenoid Valve. This is a common issue especially on the Type-S; it causes the "gas cap loose" error message. $100 part and 15 minutes later it should be solved

The driver 1 key to the car looked like it had definitely seen better days, and I had a spare key laying around so I decided to refresh it a bit by frankensteining the parts together. Came out looking brand new. By the way, clear nail polish on the buttons will help prevent them from rubbing off!

Also decided to highlight my favorite little freebie that came on the car. When I saw it I had to have it!

Hell yeah man, congrats! Do you need any other parts other than the valve you pictured to do that DIY fix? I need to do that badly...

Thanks man!!! Honestly I'm not sure about that but from the bit of research I've done on it that seems to be the easiest and most common fix so I started there. I haven't driven it enough to confirm, but haven't seen the stupid warning come on since I replaced it. It cost me around $109 for an OEM so well worth it!

LOL! Nah, I told myself I would never buy another black car after I sold the last TL, it's just so much maintenance. I really really wanted a white UA7, but this came my way so I had to pick it up. I love the white type-s's though. If someone wanted to trade me I would probably do it even.

Thanks!! Definitely haha. I really daydreamed about a couple other cars but I feel like the TL fits me and my style really well. and for my 10-14k budget nothing else even comes close!

Snapped a couple pictures today. Still haven't even put 10 miles on it

Waiting on paperwork for the car, hopefully coming this week. Then immediately tint and getting a PDR guy to pull a couple door dings

Man, can't tell the difference between this car and my old on in these pics.

Thanks everyone!

Finally got the paperwork in order for the car and dropped it off to get inspections done. Found out I may need to get new brakes for the brembos...Thinking about going with something other than Brakemotive this time.

While they worked well for my last two TLs, I felt like there was an added sort of whirring noise with braking that I don't really want to deal with again. Might go stoptech eventually, but probably will get good pads for now and have the rotors turned.

But that gives me an excuse to paint the brembos since the rotors will be coming off! I did silver last time and liked it a lot, but not sure what I'll go with this time...I really like some of the crazy colors others have done but also have been thinking red would be appropriate as it is a Type-S. Decisions decisions... Now I'm remembering how and why my other builds went together so quickly.. its that whole "while I'm at it I might as well do _____" mentality...

I changed up my colors since you've been gone...
Nice, man...I 2nd your feeling on brakemotive...the shudder on high speed braking was nuts and super loud. I'm on some stoptech (I think, they are a hand me down) on the front and stock on the rear.

Still rockin the Gold Cmax pads.

Ah, I'm glad I wasnt the only one! Have you seen this thread?

https://acurazine.com/forums/third-g...umbers-932339/

I think I will probably go with the rotors there, as it seems they are the ones Stoptech starts with. I was actually just looking at the stoptech kit and thinking about getting it, but didn't really want the slotted kit because I don't want the shuddering... Do you have any shuddering with your current kit? I think i will go with the recommendations in that thread:

I have a slight shudder at high speeds...

I actually went NON slotted premium centric on my NEW S2000...love those, zero issues and they look nice and clean!

Q, look into stoptech/powerslot...

I have been running the powerslot slotted rotors on the TL for almost 8 years and 125K miles...absolutely love em...they are still going strong...

I paired them with HAWK HPS pads initially and now with Racing Brake ET500 pads...both sets dust but the front pads have lasted me ~55K mile and stop on a dime...not a single regret!

I went with slotted Stoptech rotors and Stoptech pads this go around and love them. I had Brakemotives before and couldn't stand them. Would definitely recommend the setup I have now.

Powerslot is the premium brand of centric.
If he wants to pay the extra for the slots, then they are the way to go. I was on a budget for the S2000 so the centric premium oem's were fine and cheap for me.

Good info thanks guys. I like the fact that the Stoptech come with teh black powdercoating, or am I mistaken? J, do the Centric rust or anything? I like the look of the slots but definitely dont want to deal with any shuddering anymore!

I'll just leave this pic here....

^^^ I havent had any shuddering or a 'chopping' noise with my slotted rotors...and the fact they have lasted me over 8 years and 125K miles, warranties the little extra I paid for them...

haha I still remember I got these in late 2007/early 2008 from ATLP...yup, back when ATLP (Mike, if memory serves me right) were actually handling a store and inventory...I got the Tein Basics for 600 and the brake setup (Powerslot Slotted Rotors and Hawk HPS pads) for 450...he gave me everything for 1000 shipped....

Do look into decent rotors and then decide on pads...nothing wrong with blanks...most racing applications actually use blanks instead of slotted or drilled...I got the slotted mainly because of the looks

I would just say stay away from drilled...from what I have read, they are prone to cracking...not sure on the weight of the story behind them, but am not gutsy enough to take that risk...

finally, all rotors will "rust"....after washing my car and leaving her in the garage for a day, she will have some "rust" deposited on the surface which is totally taken care off after the first braking....but yeah, there is not rust in the rotor/etc...

Thanks Swoosh!

Yes, I've definitely heard that about the drilled ones. My brakemotive never cracked, and of course they did rust on the actual rotor area but the hubs stayed pretty clean the whole time I had them (on both of my previous TLs). IIRC the Stoptechs come with powdercoated or painted black hubs, no? Does anyone know if the Centric are also painted? Since I don't care much about the slots, I guess that would be the main deciding factor for me between the two.

Damn, my pic didn't show up earlier, lets try again lol . Picked these up last night

Yes, so I think that is more of a recent change, that hubs being painted black that is...back in the day, they were not, and I have mine sprayed with high heat black paint, hence no rust

and fuqqqqq yeah! Thats a great find!

It's not paint...
it's an e coating.

that's why I picked them...from autoanything, under $200 for all 4. Pads were still fine and I mainly cared about keeping away the rust.

Awesome!

I found them on Rockauto. With highly recommended pads by Wagner, my total is at $140 with shipping for front rotors and pads. I'll take that deal!!!

The black e-coating will go great with a set of black akata spacers
