Is there any way to protect n seal flat black paint without shinny-ass clear coat?
I painted my grill today for my type S bumper conversion
I did a lot of sanding and primer with flat black and really light coats of clear( like dusting it). I even mixed in one or two coats of the trim paint. It came out pretty nice. I'll try to post pictures tomorrow. Probably wont be on the car until next weekend.

beat this!

Remove the front bumper, remove the factory grille, cut a mesh grille out from gutter guard(lowes or home depot will have). Insert the grill and cut notches where the factory grille would insert, so it pushes against your mesh grill holding it in place. With the factory grill I cut out the top and bottom lines oput leaving the center only.Quickest way to do this is with a dremel.I drilled a few holes in the center bar to ziptie the mesh to this factory insert. Next I sanded and painted the insert silver. During this time I mounted white CCFLs behind the lower grille.

I will take night pictures showing all the grille lights I added soon.

** 5 minute rule**
I picked up the grill from theWanderer - had a pretty good paint job so I had to sand through the clear and WDP paint.I sanded with some 180 - 320 - 600 and 800 ( I think those were the numbers). Started with just flat black primer. It was sandable so I went through a can of that to get it as smooth as possible. I did a couple wet sands too with a spray bottle. After doing that a few times I mixed in the Trim paint but it was too glossy for me so I went back to the just flat black( not the primer) then I dusted it a few times with the cleat coat. I sanded between every spray just FYI. I like it. Gonna do a water test today to see how it holds up with the hose and should be on in aabout a week.

Shinier than the factory grey trim but not as nice as chrome trim.
From my experience with painting grilles it stays shiny for at least a couple months to a year. This time I used alot of adhesive promoter and several different coats of silver and chrome, then gave it plenty of time to cure.I hope this will keep the shine longer.

Just the standard blacking out of the center grill......

Going to color match the silver trim around it soon, along with the silver piece above the license plate in the rear.

Painted my front grill with Trim Paint in flat black. I had to remove the bumper to get the gray area on the bottom. I also painted the lower grilles. I really like the way it sets off the ACURA dome decal.

My finishing touch---chrome door handle inserts which fit nicely in the recesses on the grill crossbar and flow nicely with the chrome strip in the headlights.

Trim the mesh where the plastic straight grill pushes in at.

Lining up the mesh cut outs

Notice the grey tabs where the mesh needs to be trimmed.

Place the factory plastic line grill on top of the mesh.

Push until it snaps in.

*Optional* Mount some blue cold cathodes (ccfl)

Cover any wires and reinstall bumper.

Night pictures will be added soon.
*update*
Some of the pictures weren't showing up so I switched to photo bucket, so let's see if they work better on their server.

I thought we were going to paint the lower section black as well and only color match the 2 trim peices but my paint shop did this instead and I kind of like it. May go back and go with my original plan though.

Nice find...wish they would have had this 6 months ago

I actually bought my grille off another TL owner who didn't like the way it looked, so he sold it to me for $100...

& ever since he seen it installed on my ride, he regrets selling it

ur KBP lookz really clean bye the way.

P.S. feel free to put the Type-s emblem in the front grill now.....Tell everyone its ACU-RATE approved....lol

Well... I thought that too... but then the vent curves to the right [toward the air filter]. If it was turned the other way the vent would face left [away from the air filter].

Thanks! Hahah... I made it before... then dealership busted it so I remade it [which is what you probably saw]... then things didn't go as planned due to curing problems... and finished the grille 3 months ago. It's good now.
It's actually not that complicated...

I like my headlights too... I think my ambers are TOO smoked though.

hahah... yeah.
I accidently got fiberglass resin on the front bumper so now it looks like she's foaming from the mouth [grille].

Also her brakes are finito. I have no brake-pedal-feel... VSA light [and the hazard symbol] are now on.
So I can't drive her to get a wash... It's been two weeks. Got no money and no job... broke as hell right now =[

Nice TL, btw.
And are those Type-S diffusers I see?
