Grilles, Grilles...and more Grilles!! Show/Give Ideas Here!
Hey guys! I'm sure you all know about the other thread that was started about grilles in this section. Well, that one is kind of long, so here is a thread for all members to:
1) Post pics of your modified grille ONLY!
2) Give a DIY if possible
3) Give creative insight to new grille ideas!
It's for everyone! Please restrict it to this topic and minimize questions to "how can I get that grille look?" type questions! As always, a "that looks nice" comment is appreciated, but no negative reviews! If you don't like it...ignore it! If you really want to discuss the grilles beyond that, then please do so in the other thread.
Enjoy!

Well, of course, I will start it off with a couple pics of my own modified grille:
Angle
Straight shot
DIY (sorta) or closest to it...more like just info...
Thanks fellas! Especially PPLAPW for the inspiration! Plus the rest of ya'll that kept giving me ideas on how to tweak what PP did! I gotta find out if it's ok for me to wash the car now (after the painting). How long should you wait? Do I have to wait? I asked the guy last night but I think he was telling me about waxing takes time after painting because you are applying pressure. But just for a wash mit (lightly by hand) and some Meguiar's car soap, should that be a problem? Anybody know?
As for some questions, as to how it was done, this is the closest I can get to a DIY or whatever because I didn't do the work remember so some of the things you might want to know I still have to ask him as it was late when I picked the car up:
Top grill -
Mesh and inner piece - Basically, for all intents and purposes, this was done the same way that PPLAPW did it. I asked him how he attached the aluminum mesh and he said by folding it over. I said did you get that from PP's write-up (I pointed him to it in an email) and he said no, he was creative enough to figure it out. I didn't think it would be a problem for him because he has worked on a lot of cars with mesh before. I had it painted black and clear coated. The inner piece that is right in front of the mesh, is something he made and attached to the bumper. He didn't go with the bondo fill process because he said it could crack later and that would be a major problem! I think it's some form of hard plastic like the original piece that he formed, sanded and then painted the same as the body color. From what I saw last night, the paint matched up nicely on all parts. I thought it looked factory-like. Though, he did smudge a corner of the body-colored painted hood piece (left) and he is going to redo that when I take it back to him, as well as clean up some compound that we saw in the cracks (around trim) as we were looking at it when he gave it back to me. As you will see in the daylight pics coming up shortly that all parts up front are body-colored to give that factory look and that BLACKED-OUT look! N-B-P rules!!!!
Cup/Emblem "A" - I wanted this to be the only contrasting piece up front. I left it chrome. The cup was trimmed around the edges. All of the extra stuff from Buda's pics around the sides (this thread, post #156) was trimmed off, cup was then sanded, painted and then clear coated. The emblem was attached using two screws thru the backside of the cup, as you see the holes in the pics by Buda I just referenced. The reason I have to take the car back to the guy is because he ordered me a new emblem to replace the one he put on because when he attached it to the cup, he screwed it in too tight and there are two tiny dents on the front of the emblem that you wouldnt've seen if I hadn't said it, because my happy to see my car ass didn't! LOL! (but you know I would have today after my feet came back down to earth!) The cup was attached to the mesh using epoxy and two wing nuts.
Lower grills-
The lower grills were done the same way PPLAPW did his. I really liked that look so I told him to do mine like that. He basically cleared out the grill inserts and left the middle bar. I debated about that at first, then thought it looked best that way. I will have to ask him how he attached the mesh there. Everything was sanded down and painted and clear coated there as well. Looks pretty clean. It was nice work.
Extra stuff -I had some extra stuff done while he was doing the grill:
Front:
A-spec - I had that lower part of the lip painted black like the rest of it. Never really cared for the two-toned look. I like it better this way.
Rear:
A-spec lower part was painted black here as well.
Strip above the license plate is painted black.
So, there you have it! All in all I am very pleased with the result! He practically made it look stock! Took a minute to get it back, but I am happy!

Here's my contribution
Well, here goes my mod. I know that the white-out isn't super-popular, but a lot of people seem to like the chroming I had done.
Check out the following two pictures; they're the best I have of this mod:
No DIY really. What I did was basically just buy all new OEM standard brushed aluminum trim pieces, then had them sent out to this place called Chrome Pros Plating to have them chromed. In these two pictures, what you're actually seeing is only two pieces that I had custom chromed: the v-shaped piece and the wing that holds the "A" emblem; the hood trim molding is actually off a 2007 TL-S. It can't be seen super-obviously here in these pictures, but the TL-S molding is actually darker than the chrome I had done custom. It's somewhat noticeable in the right overcast lighting, but not so much in bright sunlight.
As of right now, I have a standard brushed aluminum hood trim molding piece at that same shop being chromed, and I hope to have it done by the time the all-Cali meet takes place.

The chromed cousin of brettallica......
So far here's what I have going on
I have a few more tweaks coming to the grill and the two lower grills but for now here's where it stands.
There's really no DIY here either since the smoked chroming was done professionally.

The car is looking fantastic. I bet that looks so hot in-person out in the blazing sun.

Don't forget fellow grillers that we TALK about it in the OTHER grille thread, we just post pics and DIY in this one so it stays clean with minimal posts so it's easy to find what you want and how to do it!

I'm only going to post one pic of the rear end with the new smoke chrome emblems because I am waiting for the one trim piece to go over the license plate.
We can talk over in this thread........

This is an update to my grill mod...
Before (hood trim molding from a 2007 TL-S; not a good match to my other custom chromed grill pieces):
After (this hood trim molding is custom chromed instead of OEM, and is a much better -- that is to say: perfect -- match):

Strange thing is, some people's pics on Photobucket show up. It's simply another example of "I can't win". No need for you to rehost elsewhere for me, really. Maybe one of these days I'll break down and get internet at home and be able to see everything. I know, there's a concept!

Remember guys, we gotta talk about it over in the other grille thread. The whole idea of making THIS thread, was so that people don't have to read thru all of the rhetoric to find out how to do the grille mods like in the other thread.
THIS thread is "strictly for posting mod pics and DIY's"!!!!!!

Trancemission - forgive me if this is the incorrect place, but - I LOVE your grille! How do I find out more about how you did it? Do you have more pics anywhere? How many colors are there - two, or three - body color+ chrome, or body color+chrome+other? I'm looking to do something very similar. Thanks!

Thanks! I was nervous about having the gorgeous chrome painted, but as soon as I picked it up I was in love all over again. I just gotta get my ass to working on my lower grill now!

I know that I have a first gen, but this is what I just did like two days ago.
Before anyone says anything yes I know that there is a crack in my grille. That was there along with all the other problems/damages that were on the car.
