Tanabe Medallion Touring Exhaust Groupbuy: Acura TL 04-08

Tanabe USA has released their Medallion Touring Catback Exhaust for the 04-08 Acura TL. The exhausts are due to arrive on Feb 9th, 2009.

Audio file: http://www.tanabe-usa.com/exhausts/files/334_video1.wmv

The Medallion Touring series has a refined level of performance and driveability.

The elegant, well defined appearance of MEDALION TOURING is mature, and matches the artistry of a tastefully built, highly tuned machine.

Using the all new 'continuous strand' ADVANTEX packing material technology, MEDALION TOURING acheives extremely high levels of exhaust system efficiency, while maintaining a street driveable, extremely low frequency and deep tone that is well under 93db for discreet sports driving.

This system requires no removeable silencer for under 93db operation. The extremely deep, low frequency tone keeps in-cabin noise to a minimum.

The full SUS304 stainless MEDALION TOURING features a slim-line oval canister, and a special dual wall, angle-cut tip.

This premium quality system is for sports driving.

What we want to do is offer an introductory price on this exhaust. If we get 5 ppl we will do $1089 shipped to the cont US

You can send payment via Paypal to excelerate@sbcglobal.net and please specify what you're ordering and for what car when sending payment

It looks great but having a resonator and a mid muffler makes me wonder if it will be TOO quiet for my taste. I like many others want a great sounding catback thats not TOO loud, but for sure louder then OEM. Plus I for instance am also comparing 4 diff catbacks for HP increase also. The first thing I want is the most HP gain, second is a louder then OEM, third would be looks.

I don't want TOO loud, so GReedy is out, even though I have not heard it.

This exhaust will sound similar to the CT Exhaust. The Medallion Touring is guaranteed under 93 db. It will be louder than OEM, but not aggressive like our XLR8 exhaust. It is throatier and deeper than OE at WOT.

I'm wanting an exhaust along these lines, but I really want to hear more sound clips such as the car accelerating away, in cab, drive by, etc, before making a decision to purchase. The engine with a load makes a big difference over free reving. I think I will hold out a little while even at risk of losing the good price. Thanks Tac

search youtube for videos of a Lexus IS350 with this exhaust. I know it's not the same car, but should give you a decent idea. I also understand that it's much like the Comptech, so look up the comptech video's on the TL too.

I can tell you there will be a big difference between a hyper medallion and the sound of a touring medallion. That's like comparing a flowmaster 40 series to an 80 series. Same company, but apples to oranges. Thanks for the post though. I think the look is great, i'm not so sure of the sound though. Should be similiar to the Comptech, but there is a lot of good vids showing how the CT sounds. The rev up that Tanabe released, just doesn't seem to have the sound that the Comptech does. I don't want drone, but I would like a little sound. I just wish comptech would release a quad tip exhaust for the TL-S. That is my dream exhaust. Tac

Actually the Hyper Medallion and Medallion Touring aren't that dissimilar. The HM is a 95 db exhaust and the MT is a 93 db exhaust. The HM will be slightly louder but not by that much.

This setup sounds nice but it has the resonator deleted and the magnaflow mid-muffler.

Not sure. I've never tested it. If you want to consider exhausts in terms of loudest to softest it would go:

Greddy
ATLP/XLR8 Non Res
XLR8 Res
CT/Tanabe MT

I indeed am. I'll be placing the order this week. I'd like to get it for $1069 though...lol

I can see the apprehension to getting it without hearing it under a load and what not. I should have this installed by the Hecksher meet, so everyone can hear it.

Hey Excelerate, wanna give me the group buy price, even if we don't get 5 people? I might just sell 4 more people on getting it after hearing a real live example! LOL

i'm still learning so i apologize if this a naive question, but is this an upgrade to the stock 2007 tl-s exhaust? also, does this replace the 3rd stage cat? i was looking in to getting a atlp j-pipe and test pipe (or hi-flow cat if the test pipe wouldn't pass emissions). thanks for the insights!

It is a catback exhaust, it starts after the 3rd cat.

Stock exhaust goes:

Precats -> JPipe -> 3rd cat -> Mid Muffler -> Resonator -> Mufflers -> Tips

Any tanabe or comptech has that same setup too^

ATLP/XLR8/GReddy goes like this:

Pre cats -> JPipe -> 3rd Cat -> Mufflers -> Tips

Also alittle side note, there is NO need to ask the same questions in 10 different threads

greco, thanks for the insights and i apologize for the multiple posts; still learning about threads, etc. so from what you mentioned about the different exhaust setups, it is a fair statement that the atlp/xlr8/greedy are less flow restrictive since they do not have a mid muffler? thanks again.

I was wondering the same. The resonator and mid-mufflers from what I gather are just a strait perforated tube, with sound absorbing material wrapped around it, then all shoved in the can, so it's a strait through design. would this hinder the flow of the exhaust and cause less power? I understand how a baffled and chambered design would do that, but not so much a strait through.

This is a catback exhaust which means it replaces all the parts after the third cat. Nothing is needed other than the exhaust. As stillhere mentioned there are other parts though like a j-pipe, high flow third cat or test pipe, pre cat deletes.

Yes, that is true. The Tanabe will be a little more restrictive but some ppl want something throatier than stock but not as throaty as XLR8/ATLP etc

xlr8, thank you for the follow-up; however, still wondering if this is an upgrade (ie. will result in greater power output) to the stock tl-s exhaust setup. also, will the tips fit w/ the a-spec rear kit? thanks again, for the assistance and insights!

It is definitely an upgrade, although you might be able to squeeze out an extra horse or two from the ATLP and GReddy setups. This will also fit fine with the A-Spec rear lip.
