AEM CAI - Service A12 Due

Hi,

My maintenance minder said: "Service A12 due soon". I called up Tustin Acura and make appointment, they said it's $194. I asked them what is that A12 include of, they said:
A: Oil Change
1: Tire Rotation
2: Air filter and AC filter (I think)

Now, my question to you guys is: If I have AEM CAI in my car, isn't it my air filter the same with AEM filter?
I did clean the AEM filter with the AEM cleaning solution about couple months ago.

So, what should I do? Should I just tell the dealer to not change the air filter, since I did that already, and just do: A1 & AC filter?

$194 !?!?!

WTF?

PASS.

Find somebody to do the Oil & Rotation for ~$60 (add $20 - $30 for full synthetic) or do it yourself (~$30 with synthetic). Then get a $30 cabin filter and DIY and clean the AEM filter yourself.

They would just send you your car back without touching the air filter whatsoever...you wouldnt even need to tell em that. Its non-OEM...they wont want to touch it so far as that service call goes. (not that there is anything wrong with it at all...I have the same setup)

I would pass on that service and do it myself though as BearCat mentions....its not a good value.

What is #2? is it air filter and ac filter? is Ac filter and cabin filter the same thing?

I'm not really DIY guy... I just don't trust myself to do it... I appreciate the DIY advise though.. but I just won't do it.

So, I guess all I need is Oil Change and cabin/ac filter?

Where can I have those done (reputable place) beside the dealer? jiffy lube? especially the cabin/ac filter...

Thanks for the help guys...

and if I do it outside other than Dealer, I guess I have to reset the maintenance minder myself, right.... Believe it or not... I always go to the dealer since day one... I know it's much more expensive, but for some reason it gives me peace of mind, for noob like me... no flame please... lol...

I agree with the two above. The oil change is very easy,$10 for the filter from Acura and another $30 on some Royal Purple. As far as the tire rotation you will be fine with every other time or $15 to get the tires rotated. The cabin filter or AC filter is also do it your self but I believe requires cutting. The other option is to find a good local Acura shop and have them do the service or the pieces you couldn't do on your own. About $100 parts and labor from a good shop.

d1jey1 - check the Maintenance section of your Owners Manual.

If you don't have one check here: https://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/...01_OMANUAL.asp

That'll tell what all the letters and numbers are.

NO!! to Jiffy Lube or similar. Dealer, Local Honda/Acura indie shop (they're everywhere) or reputable regional/national chain (Firestone, etc.).

If you want better quality parts (Oil, Oil Filter, Cabin Air Filter, etc) buy 'em and bring them to the shop to use. Shop will reset the MID if they know what they are doing.

DIY on this car is EASY!! Just read a little, print the DIY's and you can do anything. Trust me I *know*. I NEVER did anything of my own, until AcuraZine.

What kind of Royal Purple do I need for my car? how many quart?

but which kind: 10w-30, 5w-20, 5w-30
'cause amsoil have different #, like 0w-30, 0w-20, 5w-30

Wow, $194 for stuff that costs less than $50 in parts and takes 30 to 45 minutes to do. I'm in the wrong line of work.

Any synthetic oil is good: Mobil1, Pennzoil, Amsoil, Valvoline. People tend to get emotional discussing oil, but just get one of those and you'll be ok. Also, I wouldn't pay $30 for a cabin filter. I paid $15 for a charcoal filter from Rockauto (ATP #HA5).

Sorry don't mean to bump an older thread but I did a search and this is the one that popped up first.

Does anyone know how to reset the service warning? I got an A12 service reminder and I was quoted $200 for the service. The service advisor told me its $200 IF I need to change the Air / Pollution filter. Clearly, I'm a noob.

I am braving the elements and taking the car to a local mom-n-pop store that I had my previous TLs oil changes done at. Will also get my tires rotated and most likely get my filters changed at Midas. Only thing left is resetting the warning.

Any tips?

Found the relevant information in the Service manual link provided above
If maintenance service is done by
someone other than your Acura
dealer, reset the display as follows:

1. Turn the Ignition on

2. Press the < or > button
repeatedly until the oil life is
displayed.

3. Press and hold the Select/Reset
button for 10 seconds. The Multi-
Information Display will ask for a
confirmation

- If you are sure you want to reset the
display, press the Select /Reset button
to Select "OK"

- If you do not want to reset the
display, press the < or > button to Select
"CANCEL">

Power Acura in Torrance, CA is quoting $344 for A12 service on 11/19/2009.

Far as I can tell, $344 gets me a new engine air filter, cabin air filter, oil change and tire rotation. And they wash the car. Also, a two hour wait.

If I'm going to wait two hours, I might as well do it myself.

They are pricing themselves out of business.

Yeah I know, thread revival.

But I just changed my oil and filter.

Followed the procedure to reset oil life and instead receive the Service Soon A12 notice after the 10 second wait? It's not letting me reset the oil life?

WTF?

Anyone experienced this?

Thanks.

Cancel question, did another search using different words and found the answer.

In case anyone hasn't seen it, just keep holding the select button down after the Service notice appears until it gives you the option to reset. About 20 seconds or so total.
