4TH Gen SH-AWD Intake Manifold & Throttle Body on 3RD Gen

NOTE: This is for 07-08 Only

This is for all of you who wanted a ported intake mani, it is not required...

INTAKE MANIFOLD UPGRADE

Werd on the streets is the 4th gen TL Intake Mani (Part #17160-RK2-A00) Flows better than the 3rd gen

best part is the intake manifold cover which is the most expensive part does not need to be purchased... What I mean is you just need to purchase the manifold alone which is at a total of $269.04 (list price pretty sure its cheaper), the 07-08 cover is fine .... as some of you know the cover has a sensor on it, this damn sensor is $500 on the 07-08...

I would discuss the throttle body but no need since it is $500 ... and these are upgrades on a budget

ps. This is for you guys with ported intake runners and big bore throttle bodies

lastly yes these factory budget upgrades will continue as this is what I've been doing with my free time (kinda makes you wonder what the hell am I doing)

First off, don't jump the gun yet, this is not complete bolt-on. I will give you more info later.

Second, not sure where you get your prices from but they are absurdly expensive. I paid $201 for the 4G TL intake manifold and less than $500 for the TB. Run your part numbers through these guys, they don't have 09s listed yet, but they can get you the part #s, I've dealt with them a lot and they are awesome: http://oemacuraparts.com/

Your stock throttle body will not bolt to the 4G manifold. Contact Excelerate as he can probably work something out with P2R to get an adapter made for you guys.

I'm aware... P2R can make the adapter for $70... Infact they already have one for the 2nd gen tl guys, since that is the motor I'll be swapping into my teg

Its not a big modification at all

Not at all... just making sure people were aware they would need an adapter. This manifold has a lot of benefits...
-Inlet is enormous, I had my throttle body bored and it was still undersized compared to the opening
-Lower ports are gasket matched, no extra material
-Inside looks very smooth, little to no castings
-Magnesium alloy material makes it very light

For under $200 I would think this is a better upgrade than sending out your stock manifold to get ported. I'm not sure if you answered this, but you are sure the 3G plenum cover will bolt to this?

I have the adapter and thermal gasket in transit from P2R. The discount price for the 09 SH AWD 3.7 intake is 201.78 and 152.85 for the cover (I need it).

It is critical that people understand this manifold must come from the SH AWD 3.7L motor.

If stillhere confirmed the 07-08 TL cover fits the 09 SHAWD Intake manifold, then you guys might be able to source out the lids for a lot cheaper from junkyards.

Excellent point. Has anyone actually used the 07-08 cover on the 09 intake?

I have been looking into the cover compatibility and it looks like 08 & 09 are not interchangeable.

It appears to me the 08 has two areas that extend out at the top and bottom on the right side.

I hope I am wrong, this would save a chunk of change if it can be gotten used from a junk yard.

the reason I saw the manifold lid bolts up is because the gaskets are the same... which means the bolts are in the same location

besides it appears the 07/08 is different from the 09 so I don't think it will bolt up

so for the 07/08 guys they should just use it...

I must give credit to cleancl... his thread on the 4g section gave me the idea

4 Gen TL INTAKE manifold onto a 3rd GEN?

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...a%3DG%26um%3D1

I wonder what the gains would be; if any?? None of the acura deals online are stocking these yet i guess; but looks like a cool/great mod.

The bore is larger on the 09 TL SH-AWD manifold, as is the Throttle body..... if you got the intake manifold and TB, you would probably get some intereting gains.. i would imagine close to 10whp

i believe the TB on the 3G is 64mm, where as the TB on the 4G-AWD is 69mm ...

The manifold also is made of lightweight magnesium alloy and the ports are nice and smooth... no need to touch them.

^ Jeremy... i'm pretty sure the J35A8 (3G Type-S Engine) was also magnesium... thats why i didnt bother polishing mine up on the outside.. after a few runs, it would become discolored....

Do you think the 3G folks can do a straight swap out of the IM/TB together?

You're right, looks like the 07-08 TL models used the magnesium composite, both type s and base.

04-06 makes no mention of magnesium.

Looks to me like the 4G AWD throttle body will not work. First picture is my throttle body, second picture is 3G TL TB.

The manifold would bolt to the runners no problem, but there are 2 questions:
-Does the top plate bolt up?
-Can P2R make a throttle body adapter for the 3G TL like they did for the 2G CL/TL?

It could fit, the additional jack you see on the new throttle body is probably the sensor that is on the top of the plastic on the 3G, coolant lines are still there (though we disconnect them with CAI install) and there's a 6 pin plug for the body itself. The TB should be able to bolt on properly, if it doesn't we can always have P2R make an adapter.

All that aside, the drive-by-wire plug is entirely different, I think it's pretty clear in the picture... the new one has a much wider plug. If the pins are the same I guess you could manage something, it just wouldn't be a clean bolt-on.

Furthermore, see the 2nd gen tl side for a pleasant surprise, they've really got this manifold up and running hard

I think that the gains would come from bolting the t/b and the plenum on together. Inlet bore will be almost 76mm. I am trying this today so Ill let you know what happens. Test subject is my 2008 Type S and the "donor" is a 2009 Shawd Tl.

Now... racinghart03 confirms that the 4th gen sh-awd intake mani fits the 3rd gen tl... but he has also taken it further by also confirming that the 4th gen sh-awd throttle sensor is a plug and play with the third gen... here are some of his pictures...

It will @ least be good for throttle response. This was a junkyard pull off Audi's for old VW 1.8Ls back in the day.

There is a pretty dramatic taper inside the bore so its hard to measure but the side by side says it all. This thing is HUGE lol. I am curious to see if I throw any codes for map issues or tp issues. I havent thus far with the big bore but this is a whole diff. story. I am gonna drive with the set up for a few days and see what happens. Its not gonna be a cheap mod as the required parts are about 700 bucks!

I can only verify that the DBW connector is the same on 08 Type S. I havent gone that far into yet. All the signal and control wiring is the same. Only diff. I found so far is that the 09 uses the PCM to control the T/B and the 08 uses a independent control unit. In a few hours I will have this whole thing answered!

You guys are killing me!!! Not another mod!!! I love you guys though. Great stuff!

Now does this also confirms that it will fit all 3G's or just 07-08 TL's?

I dont have only older TLs kicking around today but I have a 07 here and it has the same connector as my 08. So so far I can say 07 08 yes.

Well unless someone knows different, I don't see a problem for all 3G's to benefit from this.

I believe it would work on the 04-06, but it is going to get costly. You will have to buy the manifold as well as #'s - 3, 8, 17. This is a picture of the 08 type-s, which the parts pretty much swap over to the 09 manifold. But the 04-06 is very different.

08 type-s

04-06 3.2L

I am really wanting to try this mod as well. I cost it out to be about $700 for an 04-06 TL. Still not 100% if it will work. This is not counting the Throttle body. I was hoping P2R would make an adapter like they did for the 2nd gens.

09 SH AWD

^^In that case, it might not be worth it. We would have to make over 10 hp to do this one.

I agree. For me with a 08 type S its still gonna cost ME about 6ish. I am just curious to see how my car feels once I put the stuff on. If it doesnt blow my mind.. I am just gonna put my big bore back on and call it a day.
