I have an 04 and you most certainly DO have the checkvalve. The problem you are describing will be fixed by this. It's pretty clear by some of the things you've written that you haven't read the entire thread. I would recommend it because when you're done you'll know how to do this, work arounds and what works best and fastest. This mod is a must in my humble opinion.

the previous posters scared me with the dremel idea. i'm going to bring the sc to a friend that's pretty handy. I'll check Advance or Autozone for a small pick set.
One question, when you pry the ring...do you secure one end with a pick and then pry the other end or do you pry in the middle somewhere?
Also, is it better to put the pick over the ring and to the back and pull towards the center or from beneath the ring and pull towards the center?

I picked up a pick set and had the ring out in 5 minutes. It took 4 stores to finally find one. I went to Advance, Autozone, Napa and finally found one at Pep Boys. Once I got the end of the ring out a slight bit, it came right out.
I'm not going to install this thing myself. Going to have a friend do it & change the clutch fluid at the same time. I'll report back next week on the results.
Thanks guys!

I tried this today, and EPIC FAIL!!!!!!!!!
I got everything out, but it took awhile because the socket wrench was too big
I didn't disconnect the fluid line, and ended up not being able to get the lock ring out. I tried for over 2 hours I'd say, and nothing. I tried everything in my house including a pick set, no dice. So I wasted a whole day, and extremely frustrated

I have put 10K miles on since I did this originally and it stills drives great. Much better response.
With no problems with that little channel I ground out with my Dremel. Took me literally 2 minutes and I was able to pul the ring out in seconds.

Completed this mod last night. What a huge difference! I think this should have been done from the factory. Thank you to everyone who posted their experiences here. It helped me complete the mod without much trouble.
I didn't have a pick set, so I ground down a small screwdriver to try and make one. I didn't try for too long, but I didn't see this way working out for me so I grabbed the dremel. I cut a small notch only the thickness of the metal cut-off wheel perpendicular to the "C" ring. This allowed me to get the ring out of the retaining groove with ease. I don't see much of a long-term structural problem with how small the notch is.
The bleeding process was pretty straightforward. I used a piece of wood to prevent the "fork" from moving while I was bleeding the system. I took a couple pictures showing the fork, for those of you who don't know what to look for.
I turned my wheels completely to the left and used a wooden stake approximately 27" long between the fork and the inside of my tire.
I think this mod, coupled with Excelerate's engine torque damper (buying later this month), will have a very positive impact on the feel of the car.
Thanks again Opel, rockstar, kennedy, etc!

^^Great pics.
Glad you were successful man. Yes, someone else finally agreed with my thought to cut the channel. No brainer...once you do it you kinda want that hour of your life back you wasted trying to use a pick!
About the bleeding...for sure...that's the way to go. I think I used a broken broom handle I had. It fit perfectly between the back of the rotor and the clutch fork.
Good work!

Hey guys so I did the slave cylinder mod about 3 weeks ago, well actually my mechanic did it for me (free of charge ) At first the clutch felt great for the first week but then it started going back to the old feeling...where the clutch had a slight delay. During fast shifts from say 2nd to 3rd the clutch wouldn't release as quick as it did before.
Clutch slipping?? I don't think so because I've tried giving it gas in high gears and the slowly starts to pick up speed, the RPMs don't jump up. In 1st gear the car starts rolling without any gas at all!
Would getting a new slave cylinder help (and removing the checkvalve)? I removed the checkvalve on my old slave cylinder which had about 70K miles on it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Just read through all 10 pages! I can't wait to do this MOD, I complain to my wife (and apologize) every time she is in the car because of the way it shifts...It really makes me feel like less of a man! Now I know it isn't me...for the love of God, I learned how to drive on a MT!

yay...finally RJ.
Wanna know something funny...I forgot how bad it was with it. When I test drove that 07 type 6 MT a few months ago...OMG...I was jerking all over the place and I was thinking wtf is wrong with this thing.
Checkvalve removal is a must.

I noticed it really bad yesterday when it was pouring outside and at a light I tried to go and it took that little second for it to finally grab and go. When it finally grabbed my car just jerked because of the water and it felt like I was going to hydroplane.. (I had just gotten out of an old manual civic and guess I had gotten used to that shifter in those brief moments)

Well you and your 2 minutes can go die in a fire. It took me like 30 minutes to get that freaking thing out . I used a dremel though like you're saying to cut a channel. Mine has roughly 10k on it as well since, I was losing clutch fluid for a while but I only refilled it once and it hasn't lost any since so I'm assuming it still had some air in it...even though I went through a almost 16oz bottle of brake fluid...

I'm back...badly burned but back. Put the fire out with the leftovers of your brake fluid.
Dude...I said 2 minutes to cut the channel and use a pick to pull it out. I wasted an hour trying to get it without cutting. Yeah right...it was no use. Dremel is the way to go.

I really want to try this soon this is my second month with my 6speed and also first manual in general, I have driven a manual before but years ago and I really don't know what a car without a check valve drives like. I can shift smoothly through all the gears but it takes a lot of concentration to get the 1-2nd shift smooth. The thing that really annoys me is accelerating from a dead stop smoothly. I feel like I have to give it way to much gas to get it going or else it will start to shutter or feels rough. I am hoping by the sound of it the car will almost start to coast on its own from a stop after you release the clutch in 1st or at least with very little gas?

guys this is great ! after reading couple pages i want this so bad... i drive my car very hard already done one clutch and 2nd one doesnt seem to be happy with my driving i was always pissed by how the clutch engage i thought it was just the way dual mass flywheel works...
and also i think it might be the reason why some of your guys including me are having hard clutch issue... when you shifting fast at the redline without this mod i think there is alot slippage that is cousing to overheat clutch parts bearings...
i cant wait to get this done idk why i m so late with this mod...
