What about this alarm?

hey just wanted to see if anyone had any exp with this alarm system. i wanted something different, and this one caught my eye. also can support software so that you can sync your cellphone, similar to the viper smartstart.

thoughts?

I have zero experience with Autopage, but it seems a lot of installers consider them a step down from DEI (Viper, Clifford, Python) and Compustar.

You can google "autopage vs dei" to see what others think of it or go over to the car security forum at the12volt.com for more comments.

The feature set appears to be identical to my Clifford 50.7X (same as Viper 5901). I haven't priced these units lately, but I think you can get them for about the same price as the C3.

The newer Viper 5902 (don't know what the Clifford or Python equivalents are) is exactly the same as the 5901 except with a color remote, so you pay about an extra $100 for a color remote.

Autopage is decent stuff. DEI is over rated IMO. They are really good at finding someone else to develop technology, copying it or just buying the company.

Compustar is one of the more innovative, better built systems out there.

That said, if you buy something like that online plan on doing the install yourself or have someone already lined up to do it because a lot of shops won't touch security products that are purchased elsewhere.

^yeah i've got a good buddy who will install it. he's worked with autopage before.

just wasn't sure if i should even bother with it, or just go with a 5901 or something similar. i like the display/features on the autopage tho.

Dei or Auto Page, either or. A friend of mine that owns an audio shop says they are all the same, you are just paying for the name, he installs them all day every day. Some of you might say i'm wrong, but he says dei/auto page and all those brands are made in the same factory in China, so yeah.

FWIW, the "same factory in China" is capable of producing different levels of products based on what the manufacturer client outlines. All of the branded DEI stuff (Viper, python, clifford, avital, etc) is the EXACT same with a different casing. Autopage is different. They use different boards, connectors, relays, etc. Compustar is different as well. Honestly they all do the same thing for the most part (sans the uber cheap ones) performance is all dependent on the install.

the autopage has an additional option of adding a C3 module...which will allow to me operate the alarm through my iphone...pretty badass.

also, will i need a bypass module for this alarm? bc of the stock alarm on the car already?

thanks everyone for your input so far. this is a big purchase for me and i just want to make sure i do it right. i've got a guy selling a viper 5901 w/ 2 remotes used for a good price as well. just not sure which route i should take...

You will need a transponder interface. It is easier on this car to use one that also controls the door locks through data as well.

Yes to the bypass module. As above, I'd also recommend a door lock IU as well. There are IUs that combine both features: canmax400dei (discontinued but still available) FL-CAN, DB-ALL.

All the DEI upper level models have the same cell phone option.
