Best way to wire 2 12" Alpine Type R's & Mrp-m1000

What up guys!

I was at the pawn shop after i washed my truck and saw a guy bringing in his system, so i checked it out and it was exactly what i was looking for. 2 12" Alpine Type R's (swr-1242d) and a Alpine (Mrp-m1000) amp. So after the shop told him what they would give him for it i offered him $30 more and he took it.
Man the pawn shop guy was pissed.

Anyways i have searched alot and thought i would just check here before i install them.

Is this the best way to wire them, for the most power?

Haha that's pretty messed up but funny. How much did you pay for it all??

By the way, those are DVC 4ohms so you'll only be able to wire it into your amp at 1ohm or 4 ohms. Your amp is NOT stable at 1ohm so don't do this! Your going to have them at 4ohms and your amp will do around a true 650RMS @ 4ohms so each woofer will see 325RMS....which isn't very much for those at all!! It's much better to over power a woofer then under power it so you might check the woofers to see if everything still checks out b/c he might have been clipping the hell out of them!

agreed, should have done a little research before pulling the plug.

He said he didnt have them hooked up together, he was bringing in parts of 2 diffrent setups.

Can i hook it up like this.

Pos to pos and neg to neg on each speaker/sub. Then take pos from one sub and connect it to neg on the 2nd sub. Now use the connectors left from each sub.
Amp's neg goes to neg on one sub, and amp's pos to the other sub's pos.

Wont the make each speaker 2 ohm and 2ohm load?

Ok, I don't even know wtf that is but no...the only two ways to hook up a DVC 4ohm sub is at 1ohm or 4ohms. Look on the back of the sub...are you sure its a 4ohm sub? It'll still sound...meh ok.....at 4ohms but your really under powering those subs, and thats BAD! When your under powered your having to run your gain higher putting more stress on your amp, etc. I'd hope for those being DVC 2's. Like I said, you'll be fine running it at 4ohms but your not going to get the full potential b/c you'll need to keep your gains low.

One thing that can help is a ported box built close to the max specs for efficiency...but we don't exactly hae the room for that. What's the box dimensions look like now? Any pics?

Sorry man, its not possible. And....uh.....not to rub it in but you can buy those subs in either DVC 2ohm or DVC 4ohm for $125/per ($250 pair) BRAND NEW! That amp is ok and that's under what it cost new but you might be able to find it used for cheaper than that. There's 2 or 3 of those near me for under $200.

Edit: What pawn shop is this...b/c I'm going to sell them my freakin car and maybe they'll give me what it cost new!!

Hifonics are generally...ok. Most always over-rated so you'll be getting around 500-550 on each @ 1ohm. If you can sell that puppy and spend a tad more ($50ish) then I'd check out the Audioque 1200d for $250 shipped. It will be leaps and bounds above the Hifonics

Hifonics are OK. They are power hogs at 1 ohm and they distort more than they claim (maybe .20-.25 or so) ... probably 60% efficient if I had to guess. Wire that baby with some wire counting on 1800 or so watts just to be safe - that 4 gauge kit might be OK, but I don't know what kind of wire that it comes with. You will probably get some dimming at high volumes.

If you buy a 4 ohm amp, then you probably could be around 84-90% efficiency and won't dim... but 4 ohm amps at 1200 watts are a lot more money.

Have fun.

He was probably saying that the Alpine MRP-M1000 is not 1 ohm stable, and to be careful.

If the wiring diagram was thinking about the Hifonics, which is 1 ohm stable, then cool.

I traded for a hifonics hfi1000d, ran it to 1 ohm and now my **** bangs! Im gonna wait till i have a little more money and get another hifonics amp prolly the same one and run them both on 2 ohm witch would put them both at about 750 rms or just a little lower.

I would think that amp is plenty for daily use on those subs. Though they're over-rated quite a bit, and from what I hear pretty "dirty" sounding amps, that amp will be fine for daily use on those. If you want to go louder then I'd look at changing subs, amp, etc...but that should be plenty for now. My 2 JL w3's off 250 a piece are enough for me haha. Kinda pulled a 180 from my previous setup. (2 DD 3510d's off a PA a3000db benched at 2156rms (13v)...talk about loud! Wow. And those could easily take 1 of those amps each!)

How's your box? Any pics or do you know the dimensions? If it's pre-fab, shitty design/materials, wrong size/tune, etc...then you'll gain A TON by putting in a proper enclosure.

The box i have is not the best. It is sealed and has been drilled about 5 times i had to angle each sub to get a good spot to drill. i'm not sure what the dims are on it but, right now im looking for a 1.5qu.ft proted box. I really am not going for the best looks just something not to expensive.

To be honest, if the picture in my head is an accurate description of what your box is, it won't matter how big/small because your probably letting out a ton of air. When you say the subs are "angled"..what do you mean? Like actually angled a little and there's a gap between the sub and box?

Also, a 1.5 cu.ft. ported box would be WAAY to small for both of those subs! You need around 1.5 cubes per sub. I've got box plans for boxes that are 3 cu.ft and ported anywhere around 28hz to 38hz. I've already given the plans for one in another thread and I believe he's finishing it up sometime this week. Since your looking for a nice box for cheap, you should definitely build it. It will cost you around $50 for everything and a day or 2 max.

Not the best picture but when i said angled I just ment the tryp r symbol is cocked to the sides so i could get a good spot to screw them in and one or two screws just keep spinning because the wood behind them is so week, just in two spots.

Theres not a tun of air leaking i guess its not that shitty.

You cant tell in the pic but the back of the box is slanted, i think it is close to the right dims.

When i said 1.5qu.ft i was talkin each chamber. Im good with wood so if you could get me a link of the plans that would be great.

He means rotated, not angled. If you want to save the box, then you can put a new sheet of MDF on the front for some more solid anchor points.

Point those things up and see if you like the sound better. Some do, some don't.

If that is the car that you have them in, then give a ported box a try. I hate ported boxes in trunks because it sounds to me like they are boxed twice... but I do like ported boxes in SUVs, hatchbacks, etc.

Check out the efficiency of those amps before you buy another one. If it will do 750W at 2 ohms, it might only be 60% efficient (I don't know, just saying...), so you will need about 1400W from your alternator. You might not be able to drive two. Understand the costs and impacts.

I'd like to try ported and see if i like it or not, i have been in an suv with a ported box but diffrent setup and i thought it sounded good. If i dont, i should have some left over MDF and repair the box i have right now if it is the right qu.ft i'm looking for.

I figure if i use the hifonics amp at 750w and its not 100% efficient and my type r's are rated at 600 rms then i should be hitting just about right or maybe just a little over what i need for the subs.
