I think their current policy of getting whatever disc was current at the time of manufacture is probably the safest on their part, and let's face it, a way for them to get more people to buy the updates. Hopefully, most people in my situation will take the attitude that I have and say even though a newer version was available at the time, it's part of buying 2007. One thing that may help clear some confusion or at maybe get people less upset is making it clear that they mean the latest version at the time the car was manufactured. All the manual and the features DVD video that came with the car says is that your car came with the latest navi disc. It does not specify the latest at the time of manufacture.

I have a 2007 TL-S, and I just upgraded to the 4.62 navigation. I noticed that there are little dots/spots on the screen on either recently traveled paths or frequently traveled paths. They are little dots that will follow the road that I have driven on, and they are on there all the time, even if it's not my current route. I'm just wondering if anyone has any details on this.

Dang, was editing my post and timed out..
Sounds like it may think it needs to be in the "drop bread-crumbs mode"?
pages 18,64,96 of the Navigation System manual.
Manual says that if you are about a 1/2 mile from a mapped road the dots will start to drop.
Maybe your calibration is off and it doesn't think you are on a road?
Have you noticed the dots dropping off after 150 miles?
Will be interesting to see if others with newest disc have same problem as you

I will have to look at that. I know what your talking about. The dots could possibly be right next to the roads. I'll play around with it today.

How do you edit a post? It says I can, but I can't figure it out.
I had a typo above. it should be bread crumbs, not bed crumbs.

The problem with the manufacturing date is that when you buy off the lot, you may get a different disc depending on how long the dealer has had the vehicle in its inventory. I just leased a Type S today and pick it up Thursday. I intend to check the disc and if it is not the latest for a 2008 (which I leased) I am going to ask for the latest disc. The Acura Canada site only shows the discs for the 2007 model and I am not sure what disc is in the 2008 Canadian TL.

I called Alpine directly and they said there is a newer version than 4.62 that is coming out in March for 2007 models since the 4.62 has glitches with 2007 models. I'm not sure what to do because I don't want to pay for 4.62 disc that won't work and a newer disc will be coming out in a month.

I think i remember reading about a way to reset your system so that you can put the old disc back in. You might want to search for that.
Another option is to buy 4.62 (maybe on ebay), then when the new one comes out, just sell 4.62. It won't cost as much money, kind of like renting it. Or I might be able to help you out with 4.62.

hunter - boot up your NAV with your old disc - when it gives your the error message, hold down MAP/GUIDE, MENU and CANCEL. (probably have to use two hands) It should bring up a menu, look for "Version" and then look for "Download." This should load the old disc back into your current system.

I just got off the phone with Alpine. The woman I spoke to said that the new 4.62 Nav disc is NOT AVAILABLE right now. They pulled the disc because it was causing a complete failure in 2007 model cars. They are fixing the problem right now and the disc should be available towards the end of March (however, she said they keep pushing the release date back). I asked about POI's. She told me that even if no mapping updates are available on this new disc for your area, the Points of Interest ARE updated. Those come from Info USA, and they are constantly updating restaurants, etc. So keep watching their website to see when the disc will actually be available for purchase. The question is...if no map updates for your city are available, is it worth the $185.00 for POI updates?????

I'm back in business. Screw Frankel Acura for telling me it would be $110 to reset the navigation.
I still have my 6.42 disc on the way, so I'll try that too and see if it works. If not, I can put it back.

Alpine, told me it wasn't even booting up for people with 2007s but I think it must depend on system version or something else. It works for Casino187.
Everytime I speak to someone new, I get a new story. This one guy I spoke with at Acura (1-888-549-3798) sounded pretty knowledgeable and said there was a problem with the first batch of discs so they had to re-make all of them causing a low supply. He said the plan was to release the discs to all 2008 models first then supply to 2007 when 2008 demand has been met. And right now only dealers can order the DVD.
He told me the current 4.62 discs out now work for 2007 TLs and that is why the website lists it as the latest version (but not released) for 2007. My local Acura is willing to order the disc for me since I already put in the 4.62 in my car last week. They gave me 2 choices: (1) Order the disc through them at cost (2) or pay $110 to have the car navi reset to use my old disc. I took option (1) with a free option (2) thanks to Blipszyc.

So with the update, is it possible for them to upgrade the graphics to make them look more like the other GPS systems on the market? How about the graphics on the radio\XM portion? If the disc contains the OS, I see no reason why they could not enhance the look of it. I would be happy to purchase the upgrade if it makes me feel that I have something new and improved.

USB in the 4G
I didn't hear anything about a hard drive or SSD in the '09 TL, but if they put the navigation maps on a hard drive, it would be possible to use the new USB port to update the maps/features. You could download the annual update to your PC at minimal cost (less than $50) which might contain map/database changes/additions, new features, etc., then transfer the update to a flash drive which you would plug into the USB port.
It would much better than what we have now.

Sorry, this has been discussed and argued to death, but it just doesn't ever happen.
