Optional spare tire kit - under the trunk floor?
The TLX offers a spare kit which goes under the trunk floor which doesn't reduce your trunk space. Does the RLX have a space under the trunk floor for the spare tire?
Thanks in advance.

Apparently the Acura tire sealant does not screw-up the inner rim surface as can be experienced with many types of tire sealants. Additionally, Acura says the sealant can seal punctures up to 3/16" (4.75mm) diameter.

The tire sealant will not fix a bent rim. Last winter, the spare saved the night after a long 12 hour day at work.

Hope this helps those who have questions about the RLX spare tire kit.
This is what is under the stock foam tool holder inlay. Notice the provision for the spare tire hold down bolt in the center of the hole
The spare tire that comes with the kit is a T155/70D17
This is the new inlay (not nearly as deep as the original. It has cutouts for all the original tools including the air pump/inflator plus the other tools you see here

I never realized that you'd still have the inflator kit, and that might make the spare tire kit worth doing for many of us.

For what it is worth, I usually augment the spare tire kit with a piece of pipe (I.D. slightly larger than the O.D. of the lug wrench) that acts as an extension for the lug nut wrench. The RLX wrench shown doesn't look quite as short as some I've seen, but there is no way my wife could ever loosen the lug nuts with an 8 inch lug wrench, so I add a pipe to increase the lever length advantage. I know that my wife's first action with a flat is to call me or someone else to fix it, but it is one of those "just in case" things.
Just FYI and likely stating the obvious to most.

I purchased a full size spare. It rediculous that the car does not come with a spare and to add insult to injury the space for the spare only fits a space saver. Now the mat has a 3 inch rise in my trunk.

That answers my new question. I found a cheap spare hybrid wheel on eBay and it got me thinking about whether a full size spare will fit in the spare tire well. It appears it doesn't. I guess I'll be sourcing the spare tire kit as with the hybrid, every cubic inch of space is necessary.

Is the bolt pattern/spacing for the RLX the same as the 2nd generation RL (2005 - 2012)? Am looking at a T155/70D17 temporary wheel/tire from a second generation RL to use for temporary spare tire on my RLX.

I believe they are both the same 5x120. I am sure others will confirm....

The only concern in using the old RL spare would be the condition of the rubber after all these years of sitting. It would be worth looking into how long an unused tire is considered safe. While the tire may look fine, it may not stand up to 60 psi and the weight of the car on it and the last thing you want is to carry around a spare that may fail on you.

Spare tire kit with new tire was installed by the dealer today. I plan to keep this car a long time. As I sometime take long business trips, having a spare tire kit onboard eliminates a potential schedule breaking issue.

I realize that this is an old thread, but I found it to be the most useful that I could find on the subject, and I wanted to add to it. After seeing the price of the RLX spare kit, I took a gamble and bought a used TL (2009 - 2014) spare kit, as the wheel has the same 5x120 bolt pattern. Looking at photos of the foam insert, it seemed pretty close, but looks can be deceiving and I was nervous about fit. I figured worst case, I'd just keep the spare and tools and forego the foam insert. To my surprise, the 2009 - 2014 TL spare kit fit almost perfectly into the RLX (mine is a 2015) trunk. I made one small modification - using my oscillating tool with a bimetal blade, I cut a small piece out of the foam insert to allow the plastic handle in the carpet cover to properly recess and lay perfectly flat. It cut quickly and easily, with no mess. I've attached a few photos of the finished product (I probably should have vacuumed first!).
Of course a 10-year-old spare is starting to show it's age, and this insert doesn't have a place to put the sealant/compressor (which I didn't want anyway), but these to me these were small compromises that I was willing to make given the duration for which the spare will likely be used. I purchased the kit on eBay for $120 shipped; obviously you may be able to do even better if there are any TL’s in your local junkyard. I thought I'd share for others looking for a more economical alternative to the RLX kit.
