Does a full size spare fit in trunk?

Pulling out the foam insert under the trunk floor, can I put a full sized spare and lower the carpeted platform on top? Does it not fit the outside diameter or push the platform up due to thickness? TIA

You can order a spare tire kit from Acura but it is not a full sized spare. If memory serves me right, it is about $550 including rim, tire and insert with tools that fit nicely into the lower trunk compartment. Even the usual doughnut sized spare is an important thing to have as I learned the hard way. The low profile tires on the RLX SH are prone to popping a sidewall. In my case I hit a small pothole doing 70 on the freeway and blew out the sidewall. I found that with no spare I needed a tow to the nearest dealer and then a 2 day wait for them to source the relatively rare tire type and size needed. If I had a spare, I would have been on my way and the wait for a replacement tire would not have been a big deal. Remember that a popped sidewall can't be repaired like a nail through the tread. If you search the thread here you will find several that deal with the cost and sourcing of the spare tire kit.

Thanks, flyer
Thanks for your reply. I have to replace a front tire due to sidewall damage and will replace 2 tires and so will have a good one left. I would prefer a full size spare but it probably would not fit down there or others would surely have opted for it. Just checking if anyone had actually tried to drop a full size tire and wheel in there and how much too big it is.

in case anyone is interested, a full size spare absolutely fits in the tire well - it is the oem 19" michelin tires, but cannot tell if it will when mounted, but it should. Bumps up the cover a bit, but a better solution IMO. we'll see...

That would not be a happy long term solution for me.

Although I do not make heavy use of the rear compartment, I would definitely want a flat floor when I did use it.

Anyone ventured to try a full size spare yet? I could get by with at temp tire, but certainly not a fan of the air compressor/fix a flat method which is standard on the vehicle.

I did a full-size spare in my old RL. I'm wondering the same here - has anyone put a full-size spare on a rim & put it in? How much does it bump up the cover? hkinva, does that pic you made w/the Michelin stick up only an inch or two?

I'd much rather have a full-size spare than a donut tire. You're not supposed to go above 50mph on a donut, and most aren't meant to last longer than 50-70 miles. So with all of that, if you're on a trip, it would really be a pain if you had to go donut-only.

bump

Anyone try a full-size spare? Just trying to see how far up it pushes the cover. Since I have a multi-state trip coming up, I'm really considering ordering a full-size rim + tire.

A full size flat fits. No need for a full size spare. Space savers are more durable than one would think...

So the next question is . . . . . . . . how is the fit of a space saver spare knowing a full size spare doesn't have a clean, flush storage?

They sell the the spare tire kit for the SH (which I have), and it fits perfectly flush.

New Full Size Spare wheel and Tire available

I sold my Acura and have the brand new full size spare wheel (ordered on line and made in Japan and an exact match so likely OEM) and unused Michelin Primacy (245/40R19 98W) tire for anyone that wants to keep one in their garage -or trunk. I don't know how much I paid for it but I will sell the tire and wheel for $300 (I will ship it for another $50). That's probably half or less what it cost me but I have no use for it. PM me
