Pics of RLX Base Model (No Nav)
If you were curious what happens when you get the car with no Nav, here you go...
-- "Phone" button replaces NAV button.
-- Blankout on far right of control unit
-- Black & White LCD display instead of color TFT screen in gauges

You know...it's kind of hard to be absolutely sure from photographs, but I believe that I might like the non-wood, metallic type trim.
Is it obviously plastic, or is it like the stippled aluminum trim in the 4G TL?

ugh, it looks very boring. I love how the dark brown wood contrasts in the interior. but I think it works it's magic mainly with the lighter color interiors, particularly the seacoast interior.

I hope Acura offers the Chestnut wood trim from the Hybrid on future cars. The current wood trim is very dark with the dark gray/black interior. The aluminum in the base car (I had a loaner) actually feels quite nice -- it does, like the wood, have a thick clearcoat over it so it isn't like the TL. It does have a nice look to it though!
You could change out the pieces, but for the doors you would have to order the panels and move all the components over. You are talking $375ish per door, and the problem then is that you have tweeters in the rear door panels, whereas the base RLX does not (and the aluminum is only available in base)

So they can say "the RLX starts at $49k". Of course, almost no one in this market buys a base car, though. You have a point, though. Most people want a Krell or Advance for all the safety gadgets, and of course there's no option for one without nav.
Or maybe just I want an Advance. Or something.
Also, nav isn't available in Alaska or Hawaii, just like on the RL, IIRC.
EDIT: Nav IS available in Hawaii, just not in Alaska.
As for the base car, I like the silver trim, and in fact am more partial to that than wood. But again, that's just me.

A well-established luxury brand like Mercedes can get away with ultra stripped down base models because people still want to drive any car with the badge on the front.
I believe Acura only hurt themselves by offering a non-Nav, pleather seated base model as it only robbed the RLX of much needed "top luxury" reputation points amongst the masses. This was a marketing play ("RLX starting at $49K") that was ill conceived with a brand that is still fighting to obtain any "top tier" status. In my opinion, Acura should have made two versions of the RLX - a loaded up FWD PAWS version and a loaded up SHAWD Sport Hybrid version. I'm sure dealers would have appreciated not having to try to stock or track down all the different variations in all the different colors to try to help the few elusive RLX buyers find what they want.
Just my two cents.
