Synthetic oil or conventional oil?

Are you using synthetic or conventional oil in your MDX? Is seal swell an issue? Any mechanics have an opinion on this?

Unless you need to run your MDX under extreme heat like in a track event, or need to start your MDX under extreme cold winter temperatures; otherwise there is no difference between using full-synthetic and conventional oils, provided that you do regular oil changes.

From what I've read, 0W-20 is only available as a synthetic, or a synthetic blend.

Keep your factory oil in until your MM hits 5-10% at least, since it is a break-in oil. 0W-20 oils are only available as semi-syn and synthetic.

I would recommend using Mobil 1 AFE or EP 0W-20 with your engine. You can easily get a 5Q jug at Wally world for around $25 or so. Also, I would recommend the Fram Ultra XG7317 filter (which is around $9 at Wally World as well).

The MM is pretty accurate on oil life, but if you do a lot of short trips, it would not account for an fuel dilution you could experience. In that case, I would send a UOA to Blackstone Labs, to confirm your oil condition.

Seal issues only have to do will much older model cars and older oils, and should be a non-factor in your MDX.

We would need one of those 5 Qt jugs and a 1 Qt bottle right? I think the oil capacity was 5.7 quarts. I usually bring my own oil and filter whenever I do oil changes.

Whatever Acura dealer uses...during warranty period (i have ext. powertrain to 100k), i will use what they use. My oil changes are pretty cheap that there is no reason for me to go elsewhere nor do i have the time to do manual labor.

Yeah, that is somewhat annoying. Since I do all my oil changes myself, I have a decent stash to pull from. I would just buy two jugs.

I also sometimes buy the OC specials at AAP, Autozone, etc., where they let you choose 5Q jugs or five individual quarts, and I just choose the individual quart option to supplement the 5Q jugs at Wally World, that way my left over container is just a 1Q bottle.

For those of you that don't know, Mobil 1 is doing a promotion on oil which discounts 5 qts. to about $15, promo ends at the end of May 2015.

You are right! Acura 0W20 is a full synthetic!
