You are misinformed. The Pilot does not have SH-AWD. SH-AWD is only used on Acura vehicles.

You are misinformed. The Pilot does have SH-AWD. It just have different name.
It has the same torque vectoring functionality as the SH-AWD in MDX. They are basically mechanically equivalent.

Sorry, missed the "i" in front of VTM-4. Feel like an idiot now.

I've heard that they are very similar, but are not actually the same. It may come down to the tuning -- one reviewer (Alex on Autos on YouTube, who is extremely detailed and usually accurate) mentioned that the Pilot doesn't vector the torque as aggressively as the MDX, and isn't as inclined to bias power to the rear. This results in a different feel and different handling characteristics.

I really liked driving the 2016 MDX I used for a loaner a few months ago when my RLX was in for service. I've used the push-button transmission on my RLX for almost two years now, and I like how it frees up room in the center console. It IS intuitive after about 30 minutes using it, and I can now use it without looking at it. I'm looking at perhaps changing to a 2017 or 2018 MDX SH-AWD when my RLX lease is up in a little over a year. I need an entertaining ride, and SH-AWD in the MDX helps the handling immensely, making it an interesting ride for me. I won't be springing for the Sport Hybrid MDX, though....given my experience with the RLX, there won't be any discounts because the hybrid will be few and far between.

The hybrid version of the MDX is less for performance than it was in the RLX if that helps your decision any. In the RLX it was purely for performance. In the MDX, it seems to be half and half performance and economy. 27mpg city and highway is pretty good considering what I'm seeing in my 2016 MDX!

I just got the 2017 tech package. I love it. The buttons are easy to use and the new front end is a huge improvement. I hated when they moved to the giant chrome shield. The 9 spd is only bad if you keep it in comfort mode. If you test drive one, it's in that mode. Switch it to normal or sport. Sport really wakes it up. I test drove the XC90 before this. I was actually disappointed. After everything I read, I thought it would be nicer. It also rode rougher than the Acura without handling as well. The explorer is crap and the Lexus IS small. Nothing else in this price range can compare to it.
