Weird whistling noise
Hey guys,
I know there are tons of posts on this all over the internet, but i was hoping someone had a definitive answer. Usually when I am accelerating there is some weird whistling noise that comes and then randomly goes. I tried and it usually goes away if the AC is off. Any clue?
I am hoping its not due to the oil consumption notice they just sent out. I have a 2011 TSX Tech which is out of the extended warranty range. I drive a lot and currently have 160k miles on the beast! The dealer said there was nothing they could do except give me a 10 percent discount
Thanks

I had the dealership check and see if it indeed was consuming more oil because I was getting the engine oil level low light flash a few times. They attributed this to the high mileage my car and that it is normal. They told me I was burning "slightly faster" than normal. And told me not to worry about it.
As far as the noise goes, it is definitely a whistle noise and it is constant despite acceleration or speed.

I don't know if they inspected the pulleys, it has been happening since around 50k miles. I have taken it multiple times and they just send me back saying nothing is wrong. There was some slight vibration, but it went away once I got my tires balanced. The noise is just there. It has had no effect on performance or AC at all. I know I should probably not dig into it, but its really starting to bug me. When I have the music on, I can barely hear it...but when I'm riding around without the radio on, I can notice it, and everyone else who rides with me.

My car and a few other people's cars have similar problem. You can take a look at these threads:

I sometimes notice this noise but it sounds to me like whistling from the intake. I have a cold air intake though. Is yours stock?

Yep, im all stock. I also noticed that some people said the freon in the AC was low that would cause this. But my AC blows fine. Its really cold air, even on hot days where its 100 outside my car cools down in like 5 or so min (once i crack the windows for a min)

It is the AC Expansion valve. I had it replaced, but only marginally better. Seems to be the design of the AC. The sound you are hearing is the evaporation gasses of the AC system freezing too quickly and creating a bit more suction.
