HOW TO: Clutch delay valve removal for 6spd owners

Please move this post to appropriate section if needed.

Here's how to remove the annoying clutch delay valve from 2009-2013 TSX's.

Caution: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU DAMAGE YOUR CAR. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Like every other newer Honda's, they added the delay valve in the clutch slave cylinder so you can't pop the clutch for aggressive shifting. Ever since I removed this valve, I am now able to pop into gears a lot faster.

I purchased a brand new slave cylinder to show you guys how its done (also as a backup in case I break something)

Lol this is cool. I will prolly never do it though.

Bao, have fun ripping out the slave cylinder. That will be a PIA. If you're gunna hold on to the car until she dies, might as well wait until you absolutely have to replace it then tell your mechanic you already bought a new (your modified) slave cylinder and have him install it.

I may look into buying a second slave cylinder to do this to. I thought the feel of the clutch was always off compared to the prior Honda's... never went looking for a fix.

Very cool.

Thats awesome. How hard is it to remove the slave cylinder and how much is a brand new piece? Thanks a lot for this DIY guide.

to remove slave cylinder; just take off the mounting bolts...
theres like 3.

the hardest part is taking the little C-ring out.
Be careful not to pop the C-ring out, as it WILL go flying.
I learned the hard way.

also, when re-installing the slave cylinder, you will have to bleed the clutch

^no.
Just like CU2 Dan, I used a tiny pick.

if digging and finessing isnt your thing, you could grind a little slit into the top and get the c-ring out that way.

Or you could just drape a rag over it and pop it off while covering it so it doesn't fly away O_o

Emmanuel did his at my house.
after I told him about it flying away, he pointed it down to the ground as he was picking. sure enough, it went flying but we were able to see where it went.

I dont think the rag idea would work so much.
the C-ring is tiny. the tool/pick is tiny. you need to see and have steady fingers to finesse the ring out.

I don't even know where this is located, anyone care to point it out please? And is bleeding the clutch afterwards a must?

I suggest anyone to do this mod if you like to slam gears, remove the stupid valve and don't have to worry about replacing a clutch and flywheel...

Is it necessary to apply that much honda bond? Do you think you can get away with just putting it around the c-ring and snapping it back in place. (Just in case you have to take it back apart for any reason)

^the honda bond was used just for a "preventative"

the TL guise dont bother with sealing it.
we just put the cap back on and its good to go!

Ive been check valve free for over 30k miles.

So, pulling that check valve thing will give a more "direct" feel to the clutch pedal correct??

the valve limits fluid when shifting.
without the valve in place, you're able to shift better, because there isnt anything limiting fluid travel.

Just a heads up; the valve is in place in order to limit SHOCK to drive train components. Or this is what the engineers tell us.

so valve in place = better for tranny components, but the feel of shifting decreases.

valve removed = better shifting (feel? or actually better shifting), but tranny might take a harsher useage

exactly.

Banging gears = shock to drive train components.

But this did not stop me from taking out the check valve.

Old honda slave cylinders did not look like that. I think after I get the project off the ground, I'm going to pick one up and modify it.... Maybe swap it out the same time I swap out the clutch and flywheel....

that would be ideal since you're already in there and will and have to bleed clutch

I took the delay valve out of my s2000 transmission in the first few months. It now has 53,000 miles on it and is as good as the day I bought it...Long term effects? better enjoyment over the past 4 years.

I found the same link but I didn't want to post something from another forum. It's pretty much the same procedure if anyone is looking to do this on their manual cu2. I know I will, delays annoy me.

The way I see it, may be from another forum but it helps the community. :-)

The next thing I have to tackle after this mod is the darn rev hang. That makes driving the car a bit more complicated unless you drive grandpa style when you shift through the gears.

I got rid of my rev hang. Drives like a throttle cable now.
I think im going to put in a steel braided clutch line as well. Im sure it will compliment this mod nicely.

I did two of them without grinding down anything. A little patience and the right tools!

How did you get rid of the Rev Hang?
