^if you look at the first page on this thread it says 8.5 is too wide unless you do custom body work

Sorry if this has been asked before, but i can't find anyone asking....will 3G wheels fit onto a stock suspended 2G? 2007 type-s wheels are 17x8, but they're 45 offset (i read the first page and he recommends 48).

Thanks
-Pete

AsianRage,

19x7.5 w/ +42mm offset on my 02 TL-S rubbed only when i have 3 people in the back or 2 people w/ some luggage. i do not reccommend 225-35-19 cuz dem potholes and railroad tracks can be unforgiving.

I think this list needs some updating.

Specifically a section for people who have done the modifications to get wider, lower offset wheels to fit, and their sizes. It's really not all that extreme from what I have viewed getting under the car, so it's not like you're reforming the fenders or anything; sure rolling the fender, but that's not what I mean by reforming...

Anyways,

I've searched and searched, and only found a few threads about wide, low offset wheels, and not much information was thrown in. It's put me into a position to contact people at JDMPalace and Memoryfab.

My personal opinion? After looking into the wheel wells myself, I think those would fit. From what people say, an offset that low means you'd have to roll some camber (in my opinion that's NEVER a bad thing) so it depends on how much you wanna spend on tires, and how often.

That's just me. I'm all about that particular style, which is what 99% of this community is not about.

Let's do some math:
8.5" rim is 2" wider than OEM rim ... (2" = 50mm)
offset +35 is 20mm LESS than OEM rim

So ... 50 + 20 = 70mm (2.75" further out than OEM ... if you still have OEM rims on ... there is no way this will fit without you 'tucking' the rims in (ie negative camber). You're also lowered ... so my answer will be:

You want deep dish on a car ... either go custom rims, widebody modification or ... buy a different car. Sorry, our cars for the most part are horrible when it comes to rim options.

^ That wide a tire and low an offset? Go as thin as possible.

I would say 225/40/18 is a safe size ... but go with a different rim if you can.

^ Not unless you plan on going stock height ... then you'll be looking like a 4x4. Those who have it will definitely have to cut tabs + roll fenders ... and you'll still have rubbing issues.

Following this general rule:
Our TL/TLS come with 6.5" rims with +55 offset, made my Enkei. General rule (but not always the case since there is some variation among manufacturers):

7" rim = +42 offset
7.5" rim = +45 offset
8" rim = +48 offset

> 8.5" rim ... forget it unless you wanna do some custom bodywork for it to fit.
I would probably pick the Enkei with the +42 offset. Not much a difference, really ... but every mm does add up! And I would go with a thinner tire (225/40/18) such that it reduces chances of rubbing, compared to a 235/40/18 tire. (And 225 tires are a lot cheaper in comparison to 235 tires!!!)

18x7.5 +55 ... no problem

18x8.0 +50 ... should be no problem either. If anything, the tab might need to be cut, but that's very easy to do if you have Dremel (or access to one). Pick a thinner tire (225/40/18) and that should reduce the need to cut tabs.

Ok, I already got my rims already. axis hiros 19x8.5 45 offset with toyos t1s 235s.

what would I need to do because I just lowered my car today and about to put on rims tomorrow. I am lowered 2.2 inches front 1.8 rear. Will i need to cut tabs and roll fenders?

Should I get a alignment right after I put on the rims?

Yes you will rub also along with the 235s and being lowered. With some fender modifications, it'll fit.

ok. so i just installed my rims. 19x8.5 45 offset. and when i am by myself it doesnt rub. but when i have 2 people in my car.. feels like the front and the rear is rubbing alil bit. So what would u guys prefer me to do? cut tabs and roll fenders? and also, whenever I drive and let go of my acceleration. The pedals starts to shake. Is that normal?

I believe this will work, but can someone please confirm......
Car: 03 TL-S
Rim: 18 x 7.5
Tire: 225x40x18

Car is not currently dropped......thinking about putting on a slight/modest drop, would I still be ok?

Thanks a lot.

Out of curiosity, what do you guys think of these? Car is black, tinted windows, black headlight housings, and smoked out fogs (tinted during the day and yellow light at night).

Hey guys any chance I would be able to fit 235/35R19 tires on the TL? If not, what size tires would work best for 19x8.5 rims? Let me know. Thanks. (I do realize the thread says 8.5 wont fit, but I believe quite a few people have made it work.)

Tire width has alot to do with rim offset. What offset

It will be close. You will probably have to trim the tabs and roll the fenders.

You would have to stretch a 215/35 or a 225/35 with rolled fenders, cut tabs and negative camber to get that one to work.

Take boku's word for it ... this guy pushes the limits on wheel offsets for a 2nd gen TL (along with other members ... but boku uploads pictures enough for me to remember ... LOL ...)

To the guy with the 19x8.5 with +38 offset ... you should definitely reconsider that setup for a 2nd gen TL ... that is way too wide a rim and way too low an offset. I know you want VIP style ... but stretching tires and tucking the rims in (ie negative camber) ... doesn't make sense to have to change tires every 10,000 miles since your rims don't work. Maybe for a show here and there but definitely not for daily driving.

03 cl dropped on apexi coilovers
i know that 8.5 with a 50 offset is pretty much it for our cars.

but i know rev did a 9.5 before....

would 19x9.5 +55 offset fit and with what modifications if possible. 225 tires of course

Wasn't he hella cambered tho? You could run that if you wanna buy tires every 10,000 miles like Derrick said.

Quick one ...

8.5" with +50 offset ... you will barely make it if you cut tabs / roll fenders.

9.5" with +55 offset (math: 1" = 25mm ... offset measured in millimeters)

So essentially you are going 20 wider (-25 mm rim + 5 mm offset) ... no way unless you plan on driving with negative camber (or a custom widebody kit)
