I tried a friends +38 (granted it was a 8") and stuck out outside the fender. 95% who use +42 rub or have issues. Id suggest any one who's doing research not to try a +38
Whatever you say buddy. I highly doubt the manufacturer made a mistake on the offset. Thats kinda rare if you ask me. Anyways, i have tried different offsets (not just on my car) and i think im a "Real" person too. Have you ever thought that maybe, just maybe your not always right on every discussion on this forum?

they will fit almost perfectly, and your gonna want a drop when you put them on, your wheel well gap will look huge.

Yes i know im not always right "buddy" but i think the masses and all the people who have tried with higher offsets and had lots of rubbing problems. Like I said, i personally have had a +38 on my car and it stuck out of the wheel well.
Whatever. You have what you have thats fine.

So arguably one could say that it is potentially detrimental to have a larger diameter wheel on the car since when your speedometer reads the speed limit you are actually going faster than that. I imagined this difference is minimal, so I did some research.

If you are going 70 mph with my wheels (19x8, 35 profile) the speedometer will need to read 70.28mph to actually be going 70 mph (according to this calculater, there is actually a loss in total diameter since the profile is so small).

If my profile was the same as my stock type-s wheels, 55 (still on the 19x8s), then I would need to have the speedo read 62.19mph to actually be going 70mph.

So it appears as if with my setup there is really no change in the speedo reading. The calculator I was playing around with is claiming sidewall (termed as aspect ratio) has a big deal to do with things...

Overall diameter is what makes the difference, be it in the sidewall aspect ratio or the wheel.

Great forum you have here. I just purchased a 2003 TL. I know absolutely nothing about tires. Will the rims listed below fit my car? Also, will the tires listed below look ok on my car? Any input will be appreciated. Thanks.

will a 18x8 offset +40 setup work on the 03TL-P, i know on pg.1 the recommendation is +42 but will 2mm really make a difference?

18x7 with +40 ... should be OK if you don't lower it and/or you pick 225/40/18 tires. Worse comes to worse ... cut the tabs in the back and if you still rub, roll the fenders.

Sadly, measurements are not an exact science ...

Well without the big brake kit i would suggest +45 or higher. With the brake kit i guess it depends on the rim itself. I have never installed a big brake kit so i can't tell you what exactly you have to check before doing it. I'm sure someone here will know

All depends on the rim. a 19x8 with 45 offset may have less clearance than a 42 from a different type of rim. Hard to say. I have 45 offset 19x8 Zenetti Fives and I have a good amount of clearance, but not sure for a big brake though I just got some brembo OEM blanks and EBC green stuff and I'm callin it a day..

This Is Scary!!!

This thread is awesome, but at the same time it got scary the more I read about this. I am scared to even buy wheels now with all this talk. The things that worries me, is difference in speedometer and odometer. I had that problem in my previous car when I bought wheels without any research.
I gave that car to my dad now that I am driving TL. But he didnt want to believe me that my tires were rubbing on the fender. But now, will all the info I got from here. I am sure I was right!!!!

TSX Wheels

Im thinkingof buying some 17 stock TSX wheels, I think they are off an 04-05. I just wanna know if they will fit on a 99 TL that isnt lowered? I also need to know if they have the stock size tires that the TSX came with if they would fit, they are 215/50/17

thanks in advance

Ok, I have read every single post in this thread about wheels and offsets. But I haven't came across anyone mention spacers. If the wheels you want have low offset, why not get some spacers? For Example: I want wheels XXXXXXX but offset is 38+, why not just get 20mm spacers to make it 58+???

Because that would make it a +18

Rubbing issues

I purchased a set of TSX 04-05 wheels 215/50/17 +45 offset I believe. I am at stock height right now and wonder if I got some H&R sports (1" F, .75" R) and some tokicos would I have rubbing issues?

I don't exactly know what the "cutting tabs" truely means, but if it means cutting into the fender liner, I don't think that would be wise for me here in WI since it would literally rust my car from the inside out. I am looking at a way to lower my ride w/o too much modification.

I know this is a "will they fit thread" but I think this should be ok to post here

I thought the TSX wheels were 55 offset? Not sure. Cutting tabs is not a big deal. I need to do it on mine when I put my 19's back on in a few weeks, but if you look where the urethane rear bumper meets the metal portion of the body,at the 2 o'clock position if looking at the driver side and 11 o'clock position if looking at the passenger side you can see a "tab" that sticks inward toward the tire. It is a very thin piece of urethane that seems to serve no other purpose than to piss off folks like us who have wheels/tires that like rubbing the tab It's about 3/4" wide and trimming that can make all the difference. So, just mark it along the edge, get a dremmel and cut that off...should take a few minutes to do but keep the rubbing to a very minimum or eliminate all together. Do a search on bumper tab and there is a guy who actually took a pic of what he cut off, that should help

UPDATE

Well, I gave in to the warm weather and put my 19x8 Zenetti Five's back on. (45 offset w/ 235/35/19 Falken Azenis tires)

I got out my trusty Dremel and trimmed my bumper tabs off. Put the wheels on and then drove around and no rubbing anymore!! At least so far anyway. To see if they would rub, I basically put my car at an angle at the end of my driveway to really "contort" the rear suspension since I have a pretty good size smoothed curb. By doing this, I am basically shifting the car weight to one rear corner and the opposite front corner and I have about 1/4" between the tire and the metal fender edge on the rear fender. Another way to do it is to turn the card hard on a turn to hear for rubbing, did that too and still good to go!

I know before, that tab would of been all up in my tire at that angle. So, with using my dremel, I trimmed the tabs in about 10 min for both sides combined. So all is good now, thank God!! I'll see about getting some pics up to show you all the clearance by doing this .

Of course, it's FKN snowing today!! Oh well, shouldn't be too much accumulation. I had to cut more of my bumper tabs back last night and I think I got rid of at least 95% of the rubbing. I may need to go back another 2 inches or so to completely eliminate it, but all is good at least for now. Luckily, I got about 1/4 inch of clearance on the metal portion of the fender, so I don't think a fender roll will be needed. I contorted the suspension on a hard angle to where the wheel was tucking into the fender and I could barely get my pinky in the gap (sounds nasty) but not what you all might think LOL! I did the same on the other side to make sure it was even, it was!

Plus, I bought those metal hub centric rings from Discount Tire and replaced my plastic ones. I have no vibration now other than road feedback!!!! Yes Surrr!

most of the searches i have done have been based on entering make and model on some of these website, and they give you recommendations. a lot of the results vary from zero offsets to negative offsets (deep dish)...its gets very confusing. with that being said, if i want 19" wheels and do not want to be cutting into my fender, what are my options...it appears that 19x8 is the best bet, but what is the range for offsets i am safe with

If you want to keep a good camber/alignment and you want to stick with 19x8 , I would recommend an offset of +47 or higher. That would be your best bet to not need any body work. BUT it also has a lot to do with tires. Tire size will help you out there too. With 19x8 i think 225/40 or 235/35 would be ok. I am not too sure because i have 18x8 rims with 225/40 +38 offset. You should ask people who have 19 inch rims and see what set up they have along with how much of a drop they have. There are a lot of variables you need to consider besides the offset.

I just ordered the Konig Hotswaps sized 18x8 +45 offset tires to be mounted are 225/40s. Based on your expereince with your 18x8 rims with 225/40 +38 offset, do u think these hotswaps will work? or what will i have to do to make them work?
