Help w/ TL... fuel issue?

is there anyone that could please give me some kind of logical explanation for my problem that has so for costed me over 600 dollars. it all started the beginning of the summer, the car will just die on me more often in hot humid weather than in the cold. the car will start back up after a few minutes of sitting but still dies afterwards. i purchased an obd scanner shortly after and it came up with a few codes such as catalyst flow insufficient. i replaced my catalytic converter and egr valve hoping this would solve the issue. it cleared all the codes but still stalls out on me. so then just today i replaced the pgmfi relay aka the main realy and took it for a cruise. it still dies on me, im stressing out. i suspect now maybe the ignition switch but heard that when the car dies the green key light comes on, this doesnt happen so it makes me think otherwise.. other things i may suspect is the fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator. can anyone please tell me how i can decipher what it is? the car stinks of gas after and during the stall so that makes me think it may not be the fuel pump. any help is greatly appreciated, im on my last nerve. thanks.

oh and if it matters its a 1999 3.2tl with close to 130k

According to other members that year model had defective ign. switches. You could call Acura w/ your VIN to see if it's been replaced if you don't have service records. Even if it has been replaced, members have said the replacement can eventually crap out too. Hope this helps.

I agree.

Here's a reply I just made to the OP's duplicate post in the main forum:

I wouldn't rule out the ignition switch.

There was a recall for the 1999 TL ignition switch. If it hasn't been replaced under the recall, Acura will install a new one for free. (Recall items never expire and you don't need to be the original owner.)

And the replacements can also fail. My 1999 TL is on its 3rd ignition switch. (The first was replaced under the recall and the replacement failed.)

You can buy a new switch for about $60 and install it yourself. If it's not the problem you'll at least have a spare ignition switch sitting on the shelf.

Good luck.

this is why I always say: codes are NOT diagnosis they are merely CLUES
Dont rush out buying parts until you really know whats happening

With a low flow-egr code I would pull the intake manifold and clean the egr port-
the 99s had a recall to do that and install a metal tube that was supposed to help-
but it doesnt

When you call acura 1-800-382-2238 x5, with your vin- ask about the ignition switch and the egr recalls- if they were completed- if not- get to the dealer!

Gen2-- especially with the crud they add to gas these days- seem to need the egr ports in the manifold cleaned about every 75k miles or so for peak efficiency
the 99 has only 1 port! then newer cars have 6- easy to clog 1

On the cat did you get the correct one for a TL- aftermarket is ok on certain brands

Fuel smell- how are the spark plugs? supposed to be replaced at 100k miles with the timing belt and water pump- was all that done? NGK platinum or Iridium plugs- not asdelco or bosch or other brands- those will cause problems

Check the air filter condition

Seafoam/Deep Creep- the intake vac port -spray clean the TB plate inside the TB main opening,
seafoam the gas

even if you buy the obd2 scanner- and are still stumped on a fix.
spend the 100 bucks and let acura dealer diagnose it for you
They have a special- different scanner that ONLY they have- it will reveal more than a 100 dollar scanner will
