fsttyms1, I would like to get help for both, if possible. Actually, I am also planning to make the two small lights to blink with the turn signals.
AMGala, good idea, I will give that a try!

I didn't really expect to buy one...I was just browsing through the black market, and then saw BLK-TLS was selling his jdm spoiler for $1k. Obviously that's too much money for me, but then someone posted an ebay link and to my surprise, it was only $525 (buy it now price). I contacted the guy and he sold it to me for $500. I just received yesterday and it has quite a few scratches, but that's not a problem since I have to repaint it to WDP anyways.
By the way, I think BLK-TLS is selling his for $650 shipped now. May be you can bargain with him a little since the posting has been there for like a month. Oh, ask him for the installation guide if possible and send it to me!

don't worry about being off topic, it's free bump to this thread and hopefully someone can help me out
Yea, I'm in my last year of mech. engineering. You know, it's hard to tell you whether I like it or not. Let me put it this way, when I'm sitting there trying to do one single question, but not getting anywhere, that's when I hate it. On the other hand, you do feel smarter and proud of yourself. I went into engineering because my dad kinda forced me to (you know..Asian parents are like that...). To be honest I had no clue what engineering was back then..lol...I pretty much got pwned on exams during my very first term...I didn't study much..then during that time, I learned more about engineering, and the different areas, like civil, mech, chem, bio, etc. And out of all of those, mech seems to be the most interesting because it's related to cars. Then I also found out it's one of the toughest to get in..so I studied my @$$ off during my 2nd term, and luckily I got into mech in the next year.
Anyways, that was a little story of how I got into mech...I guess if you are interested in how or why things moves, and the theories behind, mech is for you. Just be prepared for a lot of calculations and no more social life. Oh yea, if you like cars, mech is for you too. At first you don't see how mech is related to cars, but eventually you will understand.

Unfortunately i dont know how the A spec/inspire spoiler mounts in the middle, but the outer edges you can see the bumps with the trunk open where you drill out. Best advise is to go to the dealer and ask for a print out of how it gets installed (might give you template) . The wiring should just run and plug into the 3rd brake light spot.

Ya I wanted to do something with cars and the Clemson engineering program team up with honda, bmw, and michelin to name a few of its connections and I would be doing my research project senior year for a project they would actually put to use. I'm good at math so hopefully my freshman year won't be too bad.
how many physics and calc classes have you had to take?

fsttyms1, I actually have the OEM spoiler also, can I simply use the template from that?
It's Thanksgiving holidays this weekend so I will have to go to the dealer next week.
that's sweet, I wish UBC had a program like the one at Clemson, where you get to work with Honda, BMW, etc. We only have connection with GM for the PACE project.
I think I have taken 3 calculus courses - differential, integral, and vector calculus. But you will also be taking linear algebra and ODE. Physics classes...hmm...if you go into mech, there are many...solid mechanics, dynamics, fluids, thermo, materials...etc.
Honestly, IMO, first year's the easiest, since a lot of stuff you have seen during high school already. But starting in second year, things get a bit though.
lol...and I suck at ee...it makes absolutely no sense to me...

If you have the OEM spoiler all the work is done for you. All you need to do is find where and if the middle bolts thru.

Yes bolts are the same, for the ends. Taking the trunk off the car will make it a lot easier, but it can be done with the trunk still on. Drill out the 4 holes on each end of the trunk that are already there for the usdm spoiler. Then place the spoiler on trunk and screw it in loosely to get a good idea of where u will need to drill your middle holes. The middle is the pita to bolt down, but is doable. I have a a few JDM install pdfs but u really don't need them. If you don't have a rear view camera in the spoiler than its a simple 3 wire hookup. Power/ground for the 3rd brake light and power for the spoiler lights.

Thanks! Ok, that guy who sent me the spoiler didn't include anything...just the spoiler and the harness...can I find those bolts from any hardware store?
By the way, you have a very nice looking TL!
How did you hook up your two side lights? Did you connect them to the turn signals or the brake light (as in do they blink along with your turn signals?). Also what kind of bulbs are they? The stock ones are green and I'm planning to change them out.
Thanks! By the way, I got myself the JDM installation guide from Honda Access. I randomly found this guy in Japan who has a Saber (he converted it to Acura 3.2TL-S though) and he was nice enough to email me the pdf file!

I have the lights hooked up to the tail lights. AS in when i turn my park or headlights on the lamps in the spoiler turn on. That is how it works in japan and on the canadian aspecs. The light in the middle obviously is hooked up to the 3rd brake light connector in the trunk that the usdm spoiler plugs into. Then its just a one wire(power +12V) connector in the trunk, i used the wire from the trailer hitch connector which is on the left side of the trunk to the right of the taillight. The bulbs inside the lights are LEDs, 6 green ones to be exact. To change them you will either have to desolder the 6 leds and replace them with 6 leds of your choice depending on laws in your area if u want to abide by them, etc; or you can replace it with a 12V automotive bulb or you can get really fancy and make your own led array. I've done both the 1st and the 3rd option myself with the 2 jdm spoilers i have had.

thanks man!!! I like the 3rd option
Also, I notice in the guide that I need some torsion springs, are they necessary?
The guy who sent me the spoiler didn't include any mounting hardware, as in no bolts, nuts, clips, washers. Like you and fsttyms1 said, I can use the bolts for the ends of the spoiler. But what about the middle ones? I believe they are 6 x 20mm bolts.
Thanks for all of your help again!

Actually, I have the oem spoiler, but it's not installed yet. So in reality I don't have the torsion springs.
I just read the installation guide and apparently I also need bolts not just for the middle, but for the sides of the spoiler as well. The USDM spoiler already has bolts sticking out from the sides already, but this is not the case for the JDM one.
c0v3rr1d3, since you have the installation guide, could you confirm with me that these are the parts I need to get please:
- 4 bolts with washers (6 x 12mm for the two sides of the spoiler)
- 3 bolts with washers (6 x 20mm for the middle of the spoiler)
- 7 butyl seals (for the bolts)
- 2 seals (under the trunk lid, near the bolts for the middle of the spoiler)
- 2 torsion springs (both left and right)
- 4 pole coupler
I already have the spoiler harness. On top of the things listed above, do I need item 21, joint connector cover, and item 22, joint connector case?
Sorry for asking so many questions..but I'm a noob lol!

I bought the spoiler from another fellow Acurazine member, and it doesn't have the torsion springs. I asked my local dealer and they are asking $62 CAD for the torsion springs. I also asked them how much they would charge for installing the spoiler and they quoted me $100 + taxes. They will only install it if I have all the mounting hardware, unfortunately I don't have all the bolts and washers and seals....
Hmm..the torsion bars...need to find them...

Looks like I have everything I need. One question though, is the CL spoiler harness the same as the TL spoiler harness?

The reason I'm asking is I'm planning to sell my OEM spoiler, but I need the spoiler harness from the OEM spoiler for the JDM spoiler.

Understood you tried to install a spoiler on your Acura? I would appreciate it if you can furnish me some info on installation of spoiler, especially on the mounting & the electrical hook ups. I can be reached at hotclick56@gmail.com
Thanks
