CAI or K&N drop in filter?
Hello, I have tried searching and wasn't able to find the answer to my question. I'm looking to buy a CAI and am now not sure if I should go with the Injen Race Division Intake, or if I should just do a drop in K&N filter. My resonator box is already removed. I have a custom cat back exhaust, got rid of the 2 resonators and put a 14 inch MagnaFlow muffler inline where the bigger of the two resonators were, and from there, splits off just like the factory exhaust with 2 tips. Other than that, it's stock. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I know it won't add tons of hp, and I'm not really looking to add more noise... Even with the exhaust being pretty much straight pipes, except for the MagnaFlow, I can still hear the engine over the exhaust at certain times. Would it be better power wide to do a drop in and maybe a throttle body spacer and skip the CAI?

the objective of a throttle body spacer is allow more air in. ONLY, the throttle body dictates that.
Any Air tuning is done in the intake manifold and NOT before it! what this would mean is; adding volume to the intake manifold by using the MDX spacer would create and add volume.
cliffs:
throttle body spacers dont do anything.
intake manifold spacers adds mid-range torque and hp

As someone who had both, the drop in filter won't give you any additional power whatsoever. It did give me a slight boost in highway mpg and when I mean slight I mean I only noticed I got an extra 25km out of a full tank of gas. Where as replacing everything with my AEM V2 cold air intake I definitely noticed a power increase in the top end due to removing the insane intake resonator's which made the car sound badass when vtec hits but still sounds stock when driving normally. The reason you'll free up HP with the Cold air intake is because you're deleting those restrictive intake resonators which affect how much air the engine is able to take in during high revs and it helps give you better throttle response since the resonators will add a bit of lag from having to baffle the sound.

Null and proud of it

It worked wonders on my Kia, and I have very high hopes and expectations for the RDX!!!

I have an '02 TL-P and I ponied up for the AEM V2 CAI, which gave my Marilyn a major kick in the ass! I've neither the hp/tq numbers nor the experience to estimate them, but it's a night & day difference, especially when she kicks that VTEC. That said, the V2 is expensive (over $300, don't recall the exact number) and is only available for the TL-P.

Ummm, the V2 is not only for the TL-P... now that is out of the way, I would suggest you get the AEM V2 because it does raise performance. As stated before, it is about what you want to do with your car.

I'd have to agree with justnspace. There wont be noticeable gains just more engine compartment noise. You will get better airflow and its personal opinion. Some like drop ins and some like full. We offer both options and carry different brands as well. Check out our options and we can gladly quote you.

Butt dyno is the only dyno that matters
aka as long as you're happy, that's good enough!
