2005 Acura RL Opulent Blue Pearl Build

I must say I'm pretty happy with the results. It sounds good when accelerating but pretty quiet when cruising. I have noticed that it is loud at around 2k rpm. As soon as you're over 2k rpm it gets quiet almost instantly. I have a few videos of both the resonator delete with stock and magna flow mufflers. Let me know if you guys want to hear it, I'll upload them to YouTube and post a link. The attached pictures are of the Magnaflows and straight 2.5" pipe all the way to the first two resonators.

Mod List

Hey Guys,

Here's a short list of the mods I have done so far. I tried to put them in my signature but apparently, there is a 5 line limit, so I am putting them up here and putting a link to this thread in my signature. I'm sure I forgot something and I will keep this thread updated as I progress. I am going to dig up pictures of the mods in this list when I was installing them and post them later. For now, here's the list:

-Cosmo Racing CAI
-Magnaflow 14829 Mufflers
-6000K HID Hi-Beam
-LED Fog Lights
-LED Interior Lights
-Avital 5303L 2 Way Remote Start/Alarm
-iSimple Gateway (PXAMG) with ISBT21
-Dual 10" Pioneer Subwoofers in Custom Enclosures
-20% Tint All Around (except Windshield)
-Mini 0803 Dashcam (hardwired)
-Dual Wolo Bad Boy Horns
-Carbon Fiber Vinyl Wrapped Hood
-Carbon Fiber Vinyl Wrapped Shifter Trim + Cup Holder

I did put the carbon fiber vinyl in the list as a "mod" but I know someone is going to give me grief about that so just so you guys know, I could have put plastidip on the list too but I left it off!

Here's a quick snow drifting clip. We got about 8 inches of snow today and I drifted around a bit in an empty parking lot while my friend filmed it.

I'm interested in the wrapped hood, but I can't say I'll like it.

NathanJax,
I installed the subwoofers last year so I will have to dig up photos of the installation. In the meantime, here's a picture of the finished product:

I was inspired by oo7spy's woofers when I made these boxes!
I like that my trunk is still functional and I have all the bass I want!
The Amp is mounted on the back of the left woofer (I made the boxes shallow to put the amp behind) and since this photo was taken, I also mounted a 20 Farad (way overkill but I had it already) capacitor on top of the left woofer.
I will take a new picture and dig up the pictures of the install and post them later.

oo7spy,
I was unsure about the hood as I don't want to turn my RL into a ricer, however; after I wrapped and installed it, I love it! I don't think it is very noticeable, but it think it makes my RL unique. To each his own though
Here's pictures of the process, and the finished product:

Here, I just removed the hood and got a shot of my hoodless whip

Here I put it on two sawhorses in my living room and removed the wax and dirt and started wrapping it.

Here is the hood completely wrapped without the chrome trim piece installed.
I worked out the bubbles and creases and put the hood back on the car.

Here's the final product. I think the carbon fiber looks modest yet cool on a OBP RL, but to each his own!

While I'm at it, here are some pictures of the vinyl wrap I did on my shifter trim and cupholders. My shifter trim was discolored from the previous owner when I got it and wouldn't wash off. I decided to try the vinyl wrap with what I had left from the hood wrap:

Shifter trim and cupholder removed

In the process of wrapping the shifter trim in vinyl

Shifter trim vinyl wrap finished

RL Shifter trim, cupholder, and center console vinyl wrapped and installed

All Done! Let me know if you have any questions or If you would like any more pics.

I think I am going to get 20" rims for summer. I would love to get Vossen CV3's (http://nolimitbmore.com/work/acura-rl-with-vossen-wheels/) but they're a bit out of my price range at the moment. My second choice would be Gunmetal Grey TSW Nurburgring's but I really love the look of the thin, 5 spoke wheels like the CV3's. If I don't get new rims or get something smaller than 20", then I might get H&R lowering springs. I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia and our roads are destroyed from all the salt, snow, ice, brine, plows, etc. I think lowered on 20" rims will destroy my rims and suspension. What do you think?

I drove my Lexus LS with 19s SSR Viennas, full coilovers, on 275 rubber. Had it in St Louis and Boston. Used to come down to UPenn all the time to visit my sister. Only issue was the stupid cobblestone roads in one area of Philly.

If you have some decent rubber on 20s, it should be fine.

To me the cost of spring+shock=coilover, and I prefer having height adjustment.

^Unfortunately for the RL, coilovers = $2k. You can get a full suspension setup for $550 (KYB + H&R), $650 (ASpec) or $850 (stock with H&R springs).

The RL tires are beefy. You should be able to get enough sidewall with 20"s to protect the wheels. Lowering on your current struts would probably cause a quick failure, but they almost certainly need to be replaced anyway. I don't see why lowering the car on bad roads will hurt the suspension.

How much lower is the ASpec? Can these still be ordered? I think the ASpec body kits are discontinued so thats why I ask. I was looking for a ASpec front lip forever and can't seem to find any for sale online. Do you think that lowering on the current struts would cause a failure because of their age? If I got replacement struts and H&R springs, it would work fine right? Also, could I damage anything by replacing just the springs for now and then getting struts when these fail?
