Radio/nav OS, Soft, etc.

Hello everyone!

My dad owns a 2006 Acura RL. From the very begining he had a problem with the radio system. A navigation works perfectly fine (the maps are not the freshest, but that's not a big deal). After changing the battery we can't turn on the radio, the system demands the code. We contacted Honda, but the code we got doesn't work. Recently we got an information that the previous owner had changed the OS (I'm sorry if it's called in a different way, but I'm not a specialist), so the code we got from Honda won't work, because it isn't compatible with our unit.

My question is: how can I change the system of the radio unit and how can I get this OS (like files or driver)?

usually the code is posted on the side of the glovebox, have you tried it?

Yes, I did, but it doesn't work. There are also issues with the rear camera (doesn't turn on) and there is also a Honda's logo when the nav system boots.

Did he change the radio itself? Because if he did then you'd have to pull it out and provide them with the serial number off the replacement unit.

No, the radio remained as it was. The code we got was from an authorised Honda service, but it didn't work too. As I wrote previousely, something is wrong with the software, I guess that somebody wanted to hack this system and probably used the Legend's software.

I'm surprised the nav code worked but the radio one didn't...

So was we. I'm not living with my parents so I told my dad to check how does the DVD in the trunk look like. Is it possible that someone used the Legend's DVD instead of RL's and it worked?

The nav disk will have no effect on the radio code. Stupid question, but are you putting in a 6 digit code? How did you find out the previous owner tinkered with the audio?

That was what the car audio specialist told us. We contacted him after Honda had told that they can't fix this.

That's why I'm writing here, the specialist told us, that we have to find the software which will allow him changing the code.

it is always possible that the radio is not the original one.
Pull the radio out and check the S/N, verify that is the correct one.

The radio was verified by Honda and it's the original one.
