Bypass "Please check disk" error?

Greetings!
I get the dreaded error listed above in my '05 RL. I've done all the troubleshooting I can find throughout acurazine.com (including removing the disk drive and cleaning the laser). What I haven't found is if there is a way to bypass this issue to have use over the screen for other things, e.g. radio.
I live in PA but due to the error I'm stuck on Pacific standard time. This is annoying but I'd deal with this and the lack of nav if I could get other use out of the screen and not have the error showing 24/7. I hate to spend the $300-400 to send the drive in for repair. Any thoughts, ideas, or am I SOL?

Thanks for any advice!

Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to let the car reset and see if that helps. Just make sure you have your radio/Nav codes on hand..

Are you sure it's not the disc? If it's not, but a used drive on eBay.

I'm pretty sure I'm interested but unfortunately too new to send a message. (?)

In the meantime I disconnected the battery and pulled the unit one last time. Blew a nice bit of air through it and again went at the lens with some rubbing alcohol and still no luck.

In light of this, and before I buy another, is there anything else i need to troubleshoot, or is this a symptom of only the drive?

Thank you all for your advice!
