using a spacer behind the wheel
Hello everyone out there in Acura-Land.
I was told by a reputable tire/wheel dealer that using a spacer to bring the wheel outwards a bit is not recommended, due to reports of vibration.
If I can use one, it would make it a lot easier to select exactly the kind of wheel i want for summer use. I would only use one that is about 7-10 mm thick maximum, as long as I can still get 1/2 inch of thread engagement on the lugs.
I can get by without using one, but just wanted to throw this out there.
Also, I am assuming that if you are also using hub-centric rings with aftermarket wheels, along with a spacer, the ring then becomes not long enough to do anything anymore.
I have a machinist on speed dial who could custom-make a hub-centric ring that is longer, so its more of a very short sleeve than a ring, but I think the cost would be prohibitive, esp. since I'd want them made of stainless.
Anyway, has anyone installed spacers and experienced vibration? Tanx.

Spacers on wheel hubs has been going for ages... I would not recommend them because they have add undue stress to your studs If using the "type 1" spacers you're thinking about using. There are type 2 spacers they have studs mounted in them (but they usually come in thicker options like 15/20/25mm.
I would stick to finding a proper offset wheel. Also you could have kept this all in the same thread
