Weird braking during traffic
We just recently picked up a basic 16 rdx. During traffic going about 20 mph slowing down without pressing on the brakes, I feel the brakes engage on its own and released. It also does this when slowing down from 10 mph. Is it something that it does normally or is this an issue that I should notify the dealer? I remember reading somewhere that the motor switches down to 3 cylinder could it be that, that I'm feeling. This is also my first Acura car.

It may be the transmission down shifting - my 2013 RDX does that. It can feel like braking, and it's usually very brief, as it usually upshifts fairly quickly.

It is the vehicle downshifting. My current vehicle does that in sport mode (In comfort/Echo modes the downshifting is seamless).
I never understood why the RDX did not have a way to modify the driving modes:
Example
- Sport: Hard down/up-shifting, better acceleration with higher RPM thresholds, VCM off
- Comfort: Seamless down/up-shifting, normal acceleration with standard RPM thresholds, VCM on [above certain speed]
- Echo: Optimized for mileage, VCM on
Note: With something like this, maybe I would still have my 13 RDX.
My current vehicle has the auto start/stop system, which some consider useful because it saves them a few bucks; me? I hate it so unless the gas goes $5-6 a gallon, I decide to keep it off by pressing a button (it remembers the settings)

I too believe this is down shifting. This is my first RDX and it is more noticeable than any car I have owned when I take my foot off the gas and am coasting to a stop light. Just a mattering of getting used to it I guess.

2016 RDX I have the same issue. Was hoping it wasn't an issue but if other people experience it I shouldn't worry about it I guess. Its not constant just once in a while.

Touring
The logic could be more graceful in a luxury vehicle. It's always felt a little clumsy to me when slowing down, especially during light braking. They could postpone the shift until the vehicle was stopped unless the throttle was pressed.

Have a 2014 RDX that does this as well...
Downshift harder than any automatic cars I've ever driven...Feels almost like I'm driving a manual and downshifting.
They could have delayed the downshift until the RPM is really low like other cars where you dont feel it downshifting at all.
Went to the dealer about it and they applied a TCM update; didn't get a chance to really test it out yet.
sorry to bring back an old thread
at least I used the search
