R.I.P. beloved RDX

On a late August Sunday evening, my wife and I were returning home from a nice dinner when a distracted driver ran a red-light and collided with our 2014 RDX at an intersection. We then bounced off a Chevy Tahoe.

The distracted driver was a young guy who was texting while driving and was late to get somewhere. He kept pleading that he was so sorry. He drove a beat up old 2004 Toyota Camry Solara that was towed away.

The big Tahoe had some damage on the front bumper but was fine. Go figure.

Since we where the "ping-pong ball" in this accident, our RDX was deemed a total loss. My wife and I where able to walk away from the accident with minor injuries. I have a fractured rib.

The irony is that we had our 2014 RDX for exactly 12 months. We will definitely be getting a replacement Acura.

RIP RDX 8/26/2013 to 8/26/2014.

Good to hear that you were able to walk away. Does your state have any laws against texting and driving?

I'd be curious to hear if there are any charges brought against the "distracted" driver.

I see it more and more everyday and frankly it scares the crap out of me.

The reckless driver was given a ticket. Not sure if any other charges where dealt to him.

But we are working with an attorney since the reckless act resulted in loss of a new car and a fractured rib.... not pleasant at all.

Houston, Texas. The accident happened at the intersection of Post Oak and Alabama near the Galleria Mall.

Those are the pics from the accident scene. The RDX was towed away and yes that is a Toyota Solara Camry.

Sorry to hear, but glad you all are okay. Take your time with the rib, I heard it's a pain in the ass when inhaling at times. I couldn't help to notice the MDX in the background of the picture, possible upgrade?

Sorry to hear about the accident, especially to an fellow RDXer. Glad to hear injuries were relatively minor (although from experience I know a cracked rib is painful and can take months to heal...).

Looks like all the air bags deployed. Interesting... Not surprised that the car was totalled.

Hope you heal quickly and you're able to get things settled quickly and back into some nice wheels.

Yeah I noticed it too. Ironic considering my wife wanted a MDX but we settled on the RDX. Ironic as well is the RDX was totaled exactly 1 year after we purchased it... we'll be getting a MDX for the wife.

I will be trading in my TSX sometime next year for a RDX. Tired being surrounded by all the tall pickups and SUV's here in Texas.

We just purchased an 2016 RDX after many years of refusing to look at SUV's. We finally caved in after being sick of other SUV's surrounding us on the freeway. I actually was leaning toward a new British Racing Green Jaguar sedan but my wife said it was too hard to get in and out of at our advanced age. She was right.
