Nobody on this forum ever used the CREE bulb???

That is odd. I would have thought at least one of us used it for sure... oh, well.

I tired cheap SMD LEDs from ebay, they are not bright at all. Color is nice, but the light output is like 20 time less than stock bulb.
Any recommendation which LEDs would be similar in terms of light output as stock bulb?

What's the goal...different look? Greater output?

Somebody was trying to get greater output from LEDs. I think that has stymied folks so far. Look at residential lighting from LEDs...w-a-y too expensive per lumen. It's not like we're trying to save electricity in the RDX, is it?

Actually, it is for a better output of lights. I too have tried "LED" but that is a big disappointment because it is wimpy. But I have seen a new type of bulb called "CREE" which seems to be promising and I am curious. Just wondering if anyone use any experience with it.... it seems like just about every "CREE" bulb sellers are frolm China.

CREE is a brand of lighting, specializing in LED. CREE flashlights do appear to have better quality control and offer more output for a given size; but the essential technology is basic LED. Many of the flashlight geeks on line insist that CREE is the best brand of LED components; but the assembly seems to be the weak point of even the best LED lamps...the failure isn't the LED itself, but the other components and assembly. I've purchased a number of CREE flashlights direct from China...some failed almost immediately, others working nicely after many hours.

I also have a flashlight (Liteflux) that has a CREE bulb. It's still going strong after 4 years. I really like the white light it emits. But I never heard of this application in cars until now. Since the wattage draw is less than 10 watts, will that cause any issues with the RDX?

I would like to replace the halogen fogs on the RDX with either JDM yellow or something bright white (w/o going HID's).

Anybody swap the fogs on their RDX? Or used CREE bulbs? How's the output?

I asked the same question before but it seemed no one has done the conversion yet with Cree H11 bulbs. The only thing stops me from buying is the potential CANBUS error that many ebay sellers mentioned.

Do you know what triggers that error? Is it the wattage, different type of bulb, or something else?

If it does trigger an error, I'm contemplating a JDM yellow halogen fog with the same wattage as stock (I believe 55w).

Just test it out; unplug the bulb and see if you get a warning light on the dash.
I think such sensor would work by detecting the load/resistance. LED lighting would probably have a lower load than an incandescent bulb.

i am thinking of going with these. Audi owners have had good things to say about them. I am wondering if these would give an error in the Acura or maybe Acura isn't as temperamental as Audi is when it comes to changing out the lighting. My goal is get a closer match to the HID headlight.

For brighter output and whiter color you can go with an H9 bulb conversion.
A blue tinted glass H9 bulb will be brighter and whiter than the stock H11 bulb.
Downside is the H9 bulb needs some simple rework done to fit the H11 socket and will burn out about twice faster.

It would be nice if you can put the Ziza light on one said and stock on the other then turn them both on to see the output at the same time... I did that when I installed the NighHawk vs Stock on my Venza for comparision. I can clearly see that the NightHwak looks prettty much the same as the stock with a bit whiter light but... not as bright as they claim to be.

I want to switch the stock fog bulbs with Hoen Performance yellow fogs. They are the same 55W bulbs. I've used Hoen's in my past VW and Audi's and they are excellent quality.

Just checked out Hoen's site. Seems it's the best route to suite my needs. I just want yellow fogs and less dull yellow highbeam/DRL's. Plus, they have chromed out indicator lights.

I again saw this new breed of CREE light. I used CREE flashlight and they are super bright and the lumens out put is 10 better than the regular flashlight. My only problem is that the eBay seller is in China .... and at $40 for a pair.

I just replaced my fogs with these LEDs from ijdmtoy.com:
50W Max-Capacity High Power CREE R4 XP-E LED 360-degree shine H8 H11 LED Bulbs
Link: http://tinyurl.com/muzmeyy

They look MUCH better than the yellowish light from the OEM halogens.
They were $45 on sale, $55 normally. Easiest install ever. No decoder wiring kit needed!

1st pic has one halogen (left) and one LED (right). 2nd is the finished LED pair.

The color of these fogs is actually very close to 4300k HID. My guess is somewhere around 5000k
(The greenish tint on my HIDs is due to the sunset in the background.)

Cree are better than average SMD LEDs because the Cree have a projector lens concentrating the light in the front.

The Cree come in different wattage from 16w to 80w... may even go higher and lower.

The 16w probably wont be brighter than your stock DRLs. I started with 16w, loved the look but needed more output. Got the 80w crees and not disappointed.

These are my Cree 80w in DRL mode

And here are the same bulbs in highbeam mode.

This is how the 16w crees lit up during the day in my garage... They looked great in the garage but I noticed they were much dimmer in sunlight. I have no pictures of the 80watts in the day but I can say there is a huge difference.

If you are really interested Ill go out and get a shot of the 80w crees in full sunlight.

Let me also say I bought from a seller in China for 36$ for the 80w without resistors.

Working great so far. I plan on upgrading to vleds in the future but these are working great for the time being.

Guys can anyone please let us know which 80W 9005 bulbs are you guy using?

On Ebay it's either the "Cree" stuff (4x cree + 12x epistar) or the Seoul (16x seoul 3030).

Either case, it seems the highest lumen output is about 900lm (some claim 1,200 but I call BS), so still way less than the original 9005 bulbs (1700lm).

Any comment on how well these are for high beam?
Thanks!

Did some reasearch and it seems any of the "80W" LED bulbs are really not even close to 80W (actual is <15W) and is useless as high beams.

Found these which are effective as both DRL and high beams:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/121257815093
but this one has a dead spot in the beam pattern

and these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/281147863630
but might not fit due to the fan-heatsink size

VLED has ones similar to the last one and might fit better but are at $120 a pair:

Wow... Look up two posts before yours where I put a comparative shot of the DRL mode VS Highbeam mode with Cree 80w LEDs.

I too was TOLD that the high beams would be useless so I went and wasted money on Nokya halogen white bulbs. WASTED being the key term. Picked these Cree LEDs up and the high beam setting is insanely bright in comparison to DRL mode so high beams most definitely work.

As to which is brighter, stock or these... I feel like these are look brighter... the Cree projector lens does a lot more to concentrate the light into a beam than a stock halogen bulb. So the housing doesnt light up as much but it is bright as hell when you look at them or they are in your rear view.

I would venture to say the vleds are going to last much longer but until these die I wont spend the money... once these 80ws die Ill throw my halogens back in then purchase the vleds.

Thanks USDMJon!
I did see you pictures, but I can't tell if the camera setting on the two pictures were the same and accurately represent what you actually see.

Anyway, how is the highbeam on the road? I use high-beams to lightup street signs and above the HID cutoff in long road dips.

Also can you provide a link to the 80W ones you have?

I agree the VLED is too expensive. It seems with LED bulbs a better one keeps coming up each year.

Those two pictures are unedited for my build thread to show exactly how much light output the drl and higbeam mode put out.

I never felt the Acura oem highbeams did much for brightening up the road already lit but they do a great job as you mentioned; lighting up the are above the cut off.
These LEDs work great for this. The cree is a must because they have the projector lens to concentrate more light forward rather than into the housing.

Below is a picture of the Cree 80w LEDs in DRL mode at 2-3pm

Here is a link..
Best price I could find on the Crees alone no resistors
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-Genuine-CREE-80W-9005-LED-Fog-Light-12V-24V-car-DRL-light-lamp-car-light-/271370606861?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f2ef2d90d&vxp=mtr
And here are a good price on reisistors
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-9005-LED-Headlight-Fog-Light-DRL-No-Error-Load-Resistor-No-Flickering-Decoder-/171076941314?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27d4faf602&vxp=mtr
If you can find them together you may be able to cut like 5 bucks off the price.

I bought 16w crees first... then bought those 80w crees without resistors and just used the old ones from the 16w crees.

In considering fog lights, you need to decide whether you want looks (generally matching the color temperature to your headlights) or functionality. Most all of fogs are nothing but jewelry nowadays so if you want some functionality, you need to go with yellow, incandescent bulbs.(Nokya, Xenesis are two that are good.) In fog of various particle sizes red is the best part of the color spectrum for visibility but of course we can't put red on the front of the car. I'm going yellow on the RDX. I tried matching the bixenons on my M3 with Xenesis blues but they were useless. So I put in a pair of Xenesis yellow bulbs and I'm much happier. Also, I like the functional look of the white headlights and deep yellow fogs.

Are cree LED bulbs plug and play for both DRL and fog lamps? As in no harness required?

I bought some H11 LEDs thinking they would fit in my foglights. No. Not sure what kind of bulb is in there, but it isn't H11. Then I thought I would put them in the DRL. Many advertisers show the H11 will work in either as well as this thread. Well, my DRL are 9005 bulbs, not H11. So if anyone is interested in a pair of H11 LED bulbs cheap or if you're local in the Bay Area send a PM.
