12VDC needed 2016 RDX Adv

I need a constant source of 12VDC for my scanner and attached GPS. I either need to pass about a 16g red/black zip cord through the firewall or find a constant source within the cabin. I prefer not to drill through the firewall but rather pass it through a grommet if needed. I have not yet checked but are the cigarette lighter/aux 12V sockets live or switched? Suggestions?

I can share a similar experience I had, although not with an RDX but with my '13 MDX. I needed to get 12v power to feed a dedicated 5v USB connector within my center console. There was no 12v power outlet inside the MDX's center console, and I needed one. What I did was to drill a small hole inside the console to feed the 2 wires from the USB outlet into the center console area. I used 2 3M wire splices to tap into the 12V feed to the power plug on the front of the console and feed power to the USB outlet. It worked well, although with all Honda/Acuras the 12v power ports are all switched, so it wasn't powered when the car was shut off.

In my case my goal was to do a simple, low-power tap quickly. In a perfect world I'd have run dedicated wires to the fuse area and tap into a power source there without splicing into another source.....
