License plate bulb question

I'm thinking about adding LEDs to the license plate sockets.
Do the bulbs face down or across?

I want to know if I can use two of these type LEDs I have.

I just put some in on my RDX on Friday. Just put the bulb in socket and see if it lights up. If not switch sides and see if that does the trick. I had to do it on both.

Does the stock face down or across?
I was hoping down so I can use those LEDs I have above if the stock bulb faces down.

I've read putting the assemblies back in is tricky.

The bulb faced toward lens cover not sideways. Just make sure the light is working before putting the socket back in. You have to squeeze one side of the lens cover to get out. I first put the bulb in and did not work so I switched it around and it then worked. Just take you time.
Thanks

I bought a pair of HP3 pure white LEDs from Diode Dynamics and got the sockets out and installed the LEDs but I could not get the socket back into the holder. Just couldn't get the socket to snap in.
I went to my dealer and the service adviser tried and couldn't do it. He gets a mechanic and that guys spend 20 minutes trying and breaks the top off one of the LEDs.No mention of LEDs being too long.

Pure white, no blue and not too bright.

Now I had to buy two regular bulbs from the dealer because I didn't take the bulbs with me. I have about 30 of those bulbs from many changeovers to LED. Dealer charges a ridiculous $2.99 a bulb. After another 15 minutes or so, the mechanic finally ( I assume) gets the sockets into place. This was done in the drive service area so I was there but couldn't see if it's done correctly. I would think it is. The dealer is 20 miles from my house the license plate bulbs worked when I got home and checked.
No labor charge but I did tip the guy. I'll live with yellow license plate bulbs.
Everything else is LED except the side markers, blinkers and the reverse lights. I have 921's but I don't like that the reverse bulbs are on an angle and the end LEDs on the LED won't shoot straight back.

I give you a big amount of credit getting those sockets to lock in.
