I am trying to change oil & filter for the first time. I don't have a jack to lift my car. Upon sliding underneath, I see the filter. But I can't find the drain plug. Does anyone have a photo or diagram? Where should I look? Perhaps near the filter? What does it look like. Thanks.

I did my wife's 2014 rdx - oil filter is near front passenger tire area - real easy

I will tray and take a picture tomorrow - it actually says engine oil near the drain plug - it is real easy - I want to change the rear differential on my wife's as it is time but I cannot find the plugs - on my Toyota's it is real easy to find

I know where the oil filter is. Can someone tell me how far from the filter is the drain plug? Based on distance I can look around the filter. I suppose it would be easier for me to see if I can jack up the car but I don't have a jack. Thanks.

Wallmike, see attached photos. The oil drain plug is labeled, and the oil filter is right next to the right side drive shaft. Get some ramps to drive up on and make your life easy. Make a "chute" from some scrap cardboard to direct the oil from the oil filter, to the drain bucket.

When do you guys normally go for an oil change? Is it done every 6 months or is it done when oil life falls at certain percentage. We had our rdx for 4 months now and the oil life is still at 70%..
thx

It will tell you when it's due. Mine went almost a year before it came up, about 7000 miles (we don't drive much). However, according to the manual you should change the oil once a year even if it doesn't tell you it's due.

Fumoto with 2016 RDX?
Has anyone looked into whether the Fumoto F106 will fit on the 2016 models? I asked the folks at Quik Valve but they are basing their recommendations on customer feedback.
For that matter, anyone able to install on a 2015 or earlier model? If so, what did you have to do to get it to fit?

You mean the oil drain plug? Yes, I drain the oil and change the filter without having to raise the car. There's plenty of room.

I am wondering if anyone can help me with my oil filter problem? I bought a 2016 RDX AWD. I thought a reference point filter would be a fram PH7317 from reading here. I have oil filter wrench that fits PH7317 but wrench spins a around a little. It's too big. I checked fram website again and noticed there is no 2016 filter for the RDX!
I also thought the fram number I presented is the same filter used on the V6 accord. Has the 2016 oil filter changed on the RDX? If I can get the factory filter off can I use the v6 accord filter?
Checking the WIX filter website the RDX filter from 2013 to 2016 are all the same. I am confused now. Fram doesn't list a 2016 filter.
This might sound confusing but what I really want to know is will the Honda Accord filter has the same threads as the RDX and will it work? I have lots of accord oil filters for my accord. It would be nice to use them.

It may be too early for FRAM to update their online catalog. The 2016 is the same as prior years. (look at part #10 in link below).
OIL PUMP (2) for 2016 Acura RDX
The one thing that Acura did smart was use the same oil filter for many models, keeping the cost down. When you are at the parts store, take the filter and see if you can match it up to a "cap wrench" that fits more snugly.

I ordered an oil filter for my accord at Bernardi's. I was going to order an oil filter for my RDX as well but I stopped. I noticed the Bernardi's part number for the accord and RDX are the same! I also found the RDX filter has a slightly smaller diameter! Help!? I am confused. I read other people have been going to Bernardi's but now I don't know what to do?

You are reading too much into this. If it is the same Honda part number, it is the same filter. The size (diameter, length) of a FRAM, a Purolator, or a Honda filter may vary. The important measurement is the thread size of the opening. Many local parts stores have specials on 5 quarts of oil, and they throw in the filter. If ordering from Bernardi, get several drain plug washers. Replace at each oil change.

It should be the same filter as the 2015 - or the same as the 6 cyl Honda for that matter. If you take a couple filters out of the boxes, check to see if the rubber ring (seal) matches. If it does, it will fit.
I drove German cars before going (wising up and going) to Japanese and I always did my own oil changes. I'm not sure that I ever used the "recommended" filter. I usually tried to get the largest filter I could that had the seal (rubber) the same size as the recommended filter. My goal was to get as much oil in the engine as I could. The filter is a passive unit - no moving parts. Cars are designed to let about 15 percent (or so) of the oil go through this filter when it recycles it through the engine.

That is not true at all. Synthetic is better than conventional oil for vehicles. Better cold starts, keeps the motor spotless, and in the long run is cheaper than conventional.
#101
I beg to differ on all 3 accounts, I never use synthetic oil on my cars and I live in Canada, never had a cold start problem unless the battery was low or dead, my engines were always spotless, and I use the cheapest motor oil available, never had an engine problem. Nothing beats the timely and good maintenance!

Stop Changing Your Oil! | Edmunds.com
Quit wasting you money. Oil has changed so much but the driver is stuck on 3000 mile oil changes in their minds. Do some research and keep up with the changes in oils.

The 15400-PLM-A02 oil filter has cardboard end caps inside the filter. The xxxx-A01 uses metal end caps. Handa Accessories sells only the A01. I really doubt there is much performance difference in filtering the oil. Under $5 if you buy the 3 or 6-pack. And get 6 washers for under $2.

Get one of these and suck the oil out through the dipstick tube:

Audi has stopped using dipsticks. And there are switches to ensure the hood was opened at the time an oil change was claimed. We should be happy there is a dipstick tube to use in our Acuras.
#107
But the tube is still there and Audi owners can buy dipstick from ecstuning. Audi owners call it cheap, but Audi says it is not needed since most owners won't check or want to get a dirty hand. MMI will display oil level. To me another sensor to worry about and sale will drop if it is the first Japanese car without dipstick.
