2016 RDX Trunk LED MOd
Hi everyone
new to this forum. Just got myself a 2016 RDX. Car's nice, but the trunk lights are awfully dim. 168 bulbs.
The bulbs are mounted side way, so only one side of the bulbs are facing the trunk cabin.
the LED bulbs on the market are all 360 degree outputs. I don't want to shine the inside of my light bulb housing I want all the LED power focus in the cargo area
Searched over the entire internet, tried DDM tunning, tried superbrightled, amazon , ebay, you name it.
I cannot find a single LED light bulb with one side LED
with a little ingenuity, I did this professional trunk LED mod
bought this bulb $5 a pair. I only needed one. hooked up the wire to the truck light circuit. With the bulb installed flushed on the licence plate bulb access panel. It's amazingly bright
I benefited from reading DIY on this board and thought to share this with everyone
picture will be up later today, so you'll be the judge then and feel free to email me the DIY Step by Step. Sooooooo easy

thanks. yeah I thought about this option. didn't know if it fits inside the plastic light housing. And didn't want to double sided taped and with the wire showed. It's a good option. thanks

I pay for quality. No flickering and will last a long time. Also local to me with great customer service. All my cars are converted to VLEDs.

I actually found 1 on amazon that I LOVED. Also bought the same for my license plate lights.
They are amazingly bright... ALSO when backing up it lights up the immediate surrounding areas really well. Better than the reverse lights on the car.
Note: For the license plate its a pretty tight fit but it will fit.
I would take a picture and show it but... my trunk's got a lot of junk... no pun intended.

I would like to replace the hatch bulbs, but don't want to break the plastic lenses. How did all of you get them off? Pry from the bottom side the hatch? Do they pop out easily or take some care?

They come out really easy. Just look for the side that has a small indent. I recommend taping the tip of a small flat head screwdriver and doing it so you don't scratch the panel. Don't be afraid, it is worth it.

I just changed mine last night, and instead of popping off the clear plastic, which I'm not 100% sure it's made to be taken off. I popped off the bigger black piece of plastic that it's mounted on. Open hatch and used my fingers on the side of the hatch panel and it popped off. pulled bulb and replaced.

Doesn't look like they carry them anymore. They are always releasing newer bulbs that last longer and are brighter. My recommendation would be to go with their new flank bulb:

If you want something brighter, you can go with their high Output bulbs that have leds on the sides as well as the top. It just seemed logical to go with the flank because that way it's pointing straight down at 90 degrees and not sending scattered light inside the housing. Either way, you can go wrong. Good luck!
