Hardwiring blackvue dashcam - which fuses to tap?

Installing power magic with black vue.

Black is ground

If anyone has done this install, where did you tap the red and yellow wires under the dash fuse box?

Red is ACC - provides power when ignition on
yellow is goes to a fuse that's always on.

I used fuse 12, the "Accessory Power Socket (Center Console)", for yellow and fuse 23, "Option" (AWD) for the red.

All of the excess wire and the lighter plug fit easily behind the kick panel. I mounted the power pro with the provided double sided tape.

Thanks for the pix!

and looks like you used 'low profile' fuse taps.

12 volt, 120 minutes. Seems to be ok in this 30-50 degree weather.

FYI

The "Add a Circuit/Tap a Fuse" is rated at a maximum of 10 amps (the one in your pics above). The Accessorizes Power Socket - #12 is rated at 15 amps. By over loading the Add a Circuit, that is a fire hazard lying in dormant. All it takes is the perfect storm to come alone an activate all 15 amps and then you might see your car go up in smoke. I'm sure you wouldn't want to see that happen, just saying.

You might want to move it to another circuit that's rated at 10 amps or less.

Good catch! I have it tapped into the center console accessory socket, and used a 10A fuse in the add a circuit, so no issue, but you're very right, it could be. Thanks for pointing that out.

No, the Add a Circuit itself is rated at 10 amps combined (both circuits) so it will be over loaded if you reinstall the #12 - 15 amp fuse back like it's suppose to or if the two circuits draw more than 10 amps.

ie. 7 amps + 7 amps = 14 amps

It's rated at a maximum of 10 amps, not 10 amps each.

Correction, my post above is incorrect. It is 10 amps per circuit bc they are two separate circuits.

However, the Accessories circuit is 15 amps so that circuit still can be overloaded.

I did this install on a 1G TSX and a 3G TL, I used the ACC fuse for ACC+ (5A.. i think.. might be 10A) and the Sunroof fuse (20A) for Batt constant.

Ground to the frame of the car somewhere, I found a screw near the hood release on both cars, quite a PITA to get to, but it works.

Good luck!

I used a wrench, and some old school muscle!

Use a short pipe around the wrench for extra leverage. Or just more a bit more ooomph!

haha good luck!

Just in case anyone is trying fuse #23. It's listed as Option but for my 2017 that's the fuse for LKAS, BSI, and RDM. I tapped into it and the car was not happy. It detected the new load and kept all the sensors off. It went back to normal after I plugged the original fuse back in.
