2016 Acura RDX HDD
I am a little disappointed with the navigation/audio system in the 2016 Acura RDX Tech. I find it to be sluggish particularly when first starting up the car. For example, after startup if I decide to input an address into the navigation system prior to speeding off I hit the menu button and typically wait 5 seconds or so for the menu to appear. I realize this is a "first world problem," however, it drives me nuts. I have dramatically improved three of my computers simply by changing out the HDD for a SSD. I feel like this would be very simple to do in a car as well (remove the HDD, mirror it to a SSD, insert the SSD). SSD's are also pretty affordable at this point. However, I think this would be meaningless unless the navigation/audio software runs off of the HDD. 1. Does anyone know if this is the case (navigation/audio software runs off of the HDD)? 2. Has anyone tried this modification? If so what were the results? 3. Does anyone know a simple way to get at the HDD in an RDX? Thanks for your input!

i really doubt this will be feasible... i also have to deal with the lag at the beginning but its over in a matter of seconds...in any case, not worth attempting as the whole system might get freaked out.

I doubt an SSD would help much. The lag seems to be more of a processor issue than I/O. The system is busy booting up the whole vehicle at start up. One of my frustrations is the slow boot-up time in general and the fact that there's no way to get in and out of accessory mode without restarting everything all over again. Not to mention that NAV isn't that great to begin with.

Re accessory mode
if vehicle is in drive and you want to turn off the engine but leave acc on , come to a stop and put the vehicle in Neutral. Press start button to turn off the engine and then shift to park. Acc will remain on until you turn it off via start button.

It almost works that way. Pressing the start button while stopped and in neutral does turn the engine off and leave the vehicle in Acc mode. Then shifting to Park shuts everything down. I've tried it with my foot on the brake and with my foot off the brake. Everything shuts down both ways when moved to Park.

2016 RDX Advanced - Sluggish Tech
I agree completely. I love the way the car drives, however, the performance of the tech is certainly not Advanced. I've spoken with a couple of the service advisers at the dealer and they agree and say that Acura is aware. When i purchased the car in August of 2015, they said that a software update would be coming. since the 2017 model is now out with the same issues there is obviously no update coming. I did speak with Acura (not the dealership) and they will not commit to any update coming.
One of the service advisers agreed that the system should have had a faster processor, solid state drive and probably more ram. I previously had a 2007 RDX and drove it for nine years. I loved it. I am very disappointed in the 2016 tech (lack of) and more importantly, Acura's position to not remedy the issue.
They have lost a loyal customer.
