CL-S Transmission Nightmares
I have had the tranny replaced & repaired in my CL-S 2001 five times within 6 months. I will be happy to share my nightmares with you if you ask, but I can tell you that Honda/Acura has done NOTHING to resolve this situation. Because of the danger this car has placed me in, it has sat in my driveway since last July while I have begged, pleaded, and demanded that Honda replace my car. (They want to make money on the transaction!) I don't want to get on a roll here, but I could write volumes about their lack of response and slipperiness from the top down.
I am going to write an expose (I'm a freelance writer and PR professional) and would greatly appreciate your transmission nightmares and Honda's response.

Luckily it went out in the city...no warning, just a huge lunge. It felt like someone hit me...I actually looked behind me to see who did it. That was it, it would not go into any gear and Acura towed it in.
After a full week, they called and told me that the new transmission had failed while on the road test and they would need to keep the car an extra week.
They did pay for a rental car, and even picked up the $150 extra charge the rental place charged for a 4 door car.
Bottom line is that it sucks. My wife has a 2002 Honda Odessy and we just got a letter extending that transmission warrenty for the same reason. Apparently its almost the same unit and the minivans are experiencing failures as well.

Oh, I forgot....2001 CL-S.
And they have replaced the brakes now THREE times at no charge as they keep warping. I get very bad vibrations at freeway speed. They don't even raise an eye, just replace them free.
So, after 41K miles, I have spent $0 on brakes!!!

Now how does one go about getting a FREE replacement car?

Acuragal - I've been trying to get out of my lease w/ every dealer around. Basically the buy out is about 4K above the trade value, so I'm hosed. At lease end I'm turning this POS in and will never buy another Acura/Honda product again. I contacted Acura and they were not willing to work w/ me at all in order to get into a 6spd version due to my issue w/ the auto.

Well, guess I lied!
2nd transmission went out a 77,500 miles. Took to Crown Acura in Clearwater Florida on 6/13/03. Gave me a 5 day rental (POS Ford Tarus). Transmission started to slip in the morning and got worst as the tranny heated up. Had the notorious 5th to 2nd gear downshifting occured while driving at 50mph while driving to Acura dealer.

Bought the car in Feb of 2002. Transmission replaced in July after only 12,000 miles. Still wasn't right but had no time to take back to dealer since it's a car for business. It's now May 2003 and I'm forced to take it back to the dealer. They are going to do tranny flush on Monday but I suspect a new transmission will be ordered within a week of the flush.
Not happy at all with Acura. Won't be a return customer.
