255/35/18 Pirelli's going on next week!!

Been a while and as you all know, I like to change m y wheels on the regular.
Anyway, i picked up a set of 255/35/18 Pirelli Pzeros which I plan on throwing onto a set of 18" x 8.0" Legend wheels which are currently getting the bronze color powdercoating treatment. I'll post pics of the tires tomorrow and the wheels later this week. Let me tell you, these 255 tires a friggin WIDE. I don't think I will rub either with the 48mm offset.

Here's how my car is riding now with the 19" and 20" setup (getting kind tired of the ride comfort).

yeah, and i had a set of Legend GT 18" x 8.0" / 48mm offset wheels refinished to a dark bronze powdercoat with matte clearcoat. Tomorrow I'll get everything installed hopefully. Here are some pics of the tires, they are so wide, I hope they don't rub. I also have some pics of the 3 piec ewheel parts I'm using to make some sick one off wheels for the new 4G TL I'm getting and the wife's pilot.

All 4 corners, same size wheel and tire. Should ride real comfortable and handle like it's on rails. These are High performance Summer tires too, real sticky icky.

I'm thinking of getting 245/35/19 for the back. I'm running a 9" wide wheel though. I can't wait for you to put them on!

depending on your offset, it should be fine, I had 245's on before and they cleared the fender, howeever, I had a 52mm offset.

Here are some pics of the wheels getting custom finished. The first pics are of the wheels in raw aluminum, just drying out of the stripper. Then the silver basecoat is applied and then they went into the oven. I saw the final color, and man do they look sweet, I was just so excited, I forgot to shoot them. Tomorrow they will be on the car with pics!!!

Do you think a 255/35/18 will rub with a 9" wide wheel +50 offset?

wow, 9" is pretty wide, but the offset is very good. Just measure your clearance with your current tire and add the appropriate tire size increase.

Technically, the wider wheel shouldn't make the tire any wider, but it will angle the sidewall to give it that stock car look or stretched tire look.

Thanks Rondog, I'll wait for you to put them on to see how they look. That should help me make a decision.

they fit perfect, no rubbing and no peeling out, just hooking up and going. I can rip the tires loose if I pop the clutch from a stand still only. But these things handle great, I took a turn at 60 mph where I only was able to get up to 40 soemthing before. I love em!

Wow I didn't think you could put 255's on our cars- even 245's I thought were pushing it.

Any updates on this tire size? Rubbing or issues?

Is this size 255/35/18 specific to ONLY Pirelli p zero??

How does one get the actual tire size vs just the stated #s on tire? Like actual

Researching I saw it seems pirrelis run a touch small? Please confirm

Ronjon has not posted on this site for years.

I have run 255/35/18 tires for years now. For fitment you have to consider wheel specs including offsets, alignment settings, how stiff car is sprung, how low car is, etc.

That size is universal, not Pirelli specific. You can check tire specs on www.tirerack.com. Not all 255/35/18 tires are exactly same. One set could rub when another set does not.

There is a wheel offset and tire size calculator at www.1010tires.com.

You could just run 245/40/18 Bridgestone RE-71R tires in 200 tread wear and have more grip than any other 255/35/18 tire besides 255 RE-71R.

Even though two tire brands and models share the same technical specs, the exterior dimensions like sidewall shape may differ and result in rubbing. I had my fenders adjusted a long time ago in an attempt to do some crazy fitment (which actually is bad and can cause rust). But with this same setup I had no rubbing.

I'm back, and yeah, I concur on those suggestions. Sticky rubber compound over rules tire width any day.
