"My seat won't move/recline" thread

I have ran into a few postings on here but no definite answers. The dealership out here (California) wants to charge me $200 just to LOOK at it and I am positive they will tell me to replace the entire seat, especially in these tough times.

The seat is stuck in an akward basically completely upright position and has been this way for some time now. A friend sat it in it 6 months ago and it randomly reclined but as soon as someone lifted the seat to get in the back seat it went back to the same position. When I go to recline it, the motor clicks but does nothing. Could this be a electrical short? I have a few problems other than this to lead me to believe so.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

No, it is not an electrical short.....your gears are stuck! Pop off the plastic cover on the side of the seat by the cloth part where the seat folds.....move the carpet/cloth out of the way, and you will see the gears, Get soem WD-40 spray the hell out of them, and get a flat head screw driver in between the gears and keep hitting the switch while moving the screw driver...it will break loose.

try what topher said, if it doesnt work, then I think ur motor is weak and u'll have to replace that.

If you have time, u can remove the driverside motor and hook it up to the passenger seat and see if it works.

In my case, my driver recliner was stuck, but motor was good. (all the gears were stuck together because the previous owner never changed the seat position) WD40 and some hard hitting did the trick.

to take care of the motor and gears, try not to sitdown or put pressure on the seat when you're moving it in that position. makes it extra hard on the motor. always kick my friends out when they try to sit down on the seat when its going back to set position.

My Sebring did this the other day, I just gave the seat a small push and it worked. The gears were unstuck.

Bad News: My seat doesn't Recline!

I know it's horrible! It's like it tries to move but then won't. Still goes fowards and back but just won't recline and is stuck in the straight up position! Has anyone taken apart these seats before and or now a simple fix to this or do I need to take it to Acura to spend a fortune

I think I might try taking a look at it myself first before I take that route but was curious if anyone else had this problem and what your fix was?

it'll be really expensive to take it to the dealer to get it fixed...search, I believe this has been covered multiple times, and I'm pretty sure you can DIY with some help from those threads...

Thumbs up Need help! My passenger seat wont move automatically.

My seat finally reclines!!! Thanks to toper. But now it wont move forward automatically. So it sucks how I have to move the seat manually every time someone needs to get out of the back seat. This started happening ever since I opened my seat to fix my recliner. So any suggestions would be appreciated. Ohh yeah, I already tried looking on the tracks to see if there's anything blocking it but I don,t see anything.
