Just purchased a Used '02 CL Type-S... few issues
Hi Forum,
I just purchased a Used 2002 Acura CL Type-S. Have always liked these cars and am coming from BMW (owned 7) so I am no stranger to Forums.
Hopefully some of the Experienced guys can help out with a few issues the car seems to have. I literally bought it this evening.
Silver, 02 CL Type-S, 155K
Going through the car the previous owner seems to have a BUNCH of fuses.. first question. Where is the fuse box please lol
Issues (any direction of links to previous threads GLADLY appreciated)
- The HEAT does not work and its cold here in NY. Saw a previous thread about a valve behind the Firewall, have to check this out.
- Back of Drivers seat does not recline (fuse?)
- Dashboard lights are pretty dim, any easy solution
- Any know front suspension issues?
- Engine Purrrs nicely and the Tranny seems to be strong w/o slipping
The car is pretty strong and put together... Great value for $2K.
Any info appreciated ahead of time Ladies and Gents

Which fuse box? One on the passenger side under the hood. Then one on each side of the car, when you open the door you will be able to pop the fuse covers off the sides of the dash. Make sense?
Your seat has a bad motor, common problem. I bought a whole seat from a you pull it place and used the parts out of that to fix me seat. Check you tub.
No suspension issues that I know of except normal wear and tear. I installed new struts myself for about $600 and the suspension was great. Around 130,000 miles is when I did that.
Good luck with the heat a few things might be going on there. First thought is has the coolant ever been changed? Might just have to flush the system because of rust build up in the heater core. Probably not but worth checking out.

when you try and recline the seat do you hear the motor trying to work? Sometimes these seats get stuck. If it's trying then have someone try and recline while you do the following:
-where the ass meets the back of the seat on your left side (closest door) there's a piece of cloth that covers a big gear.
-get a flat head screwdriver and a hammer and give it some serious wacks to force the gear in the right direction while someone tries to recline it with the button.
No heat: check coolant level, or a bad thermostat (cheap fix).
Suspension is pretty good on these cars, but they're getting old so listen for clunks.
Have you turned the dial on the dash to increase the dash brightness? located beside left of the steering wheel.

In case anyone was interested in seeing some pics...
Took it to my boys shop to get it fully cleaned and detailed. They also specialize in making the outside headlights look new again ($50) Five covers car wash, 2080 Hillside Avenue, New Hyde Park, NY 11040. This made a HUUUUUGGGEEEE Difference. One time last up to a year. Highly recommend them!
Big Upgrade on the way.. New Center caps

Thanks! Im liking it a lot... Love bargains : )
And to confirm the Heat was due to the Valve being locked up behind the fire wall. It is in the middle closer to passenger side. Thank goodness it was nothing crazy
Thanks guys
