Well, allow me to go full circle with this first.

Car was at the shop for a week. Got it back Friday. Fuel pressure regulator was replaced because tech had blocked off fuel return line and it ran fine with no code. Took his advice and replaced it. Picked it up around 6pm. Went and got some food with my friend, noticed that under heavy throttle it bogs down, felt like it was starving, but no CEL on during that. It would ONLY do that under probably 50% or more throttle. Took my friend home, decided to drive around in the car for awhile to see how it ran. Drove for about two more hours (highway and city), with no CEL but still the starving/less power thing. Stopped off to pee and when I came back out and turned it on, CEL was back. In addition to the starving while under heavy throttle, it will bog down while driving occasionally, for maybe 3 or 4 seconds. It also has trouble starting after sitting for some time (few hours). Got the codes read, P0170 and P0171 (Fuel Trim Lean Bank 1). No misfiring or anything of that caliber. Engine was smoke tested as well for vacuum leaks, didn't find any. From what I've read from googling the codes, some are saying it could be the primary O2 sensor, as this can mess with the AFRs and cause the car to run weird, but I'm not sure if that would cause the weird bogging down while under WOT issue. I'm really at a loss here.

if its bogging down and having trouble starting, it does seem like a fuel related issue...could be the fuel pump/fuel pressure regulator/bad gas (just saying)....

do you have a OBD2 dongle and Torque? using that you can check the overall fuel pressure as well as the fuel trim per bank...you can compare them to see whats going on...

hope this helps and sorry the CL is having these issues

Pump/filter replaced last year, pressure regulator just replaced. The code tells me it's lean on bank 1.

so here is my thought process, if the pressure was low, it would affect both banks and not 1...

then it kinda brings be back to injectors...maybe the injector on bank 1 is not flowing at full capacity or is clogged/etc which can make THAT bank run lean...but your tech said, its not your injectors...so then am thinking maybe the cat is messed up/clogged hence the o2 sensor is not reading right, or is it just that the O2 sensor is going bad and needs to be replaced...

thats why if you look at the fuel pressing and trims in Torque it might take you another step ahead...

if the fuel pressure is good and the fuel trim on bank 1 is more, you know its a cat/O2 sensor issue...but if the fuel trim is identical between the banks, then most likely its injectors/fuel line/fuel rail for that particular bank...

/thinking out loud

No idea what's wrong with it. Hasn't wanted to start the past month or so. Same code. Still unsure. Need to look at a few things on it to get an idea (plugs to see which cylinders are getting enough fuel) but I don't have the money right now to even fix it so...

And no, it's not being sold. That would just be more of a hassle and not I wouldn't get a damn thing for it.

I guess I'll update this thread

Still having the fuel issue, and now I think the torque converter is going bad (at least that's what my transmission tech said), as it won't let me give it more than about 2/3 throttle or go high in the RPMs in gear.

So my plan is to eventually find an 03 CL-S6 and swap everything to that, then just sell the original car. I don't want to just not have a CL, cause I love the cars so much. But since it's paid for and can still drive fairly decent, I'll keep it for now and just stick it in the garage.

I did manage to swipe 03 heads, tails, grille, and a few other minor parts from an 03 CL (non Type S, auto) we got on trade at work a month or so ago.

Good luck in your search! They can be had for a great price these days. I love that they're pretty easy to work on and if the engine in the one your get is toast, just throw in a J35A3!
I've been creepin your bagged merc thread. Looking good!
I just took the CL out and then we got 4 inches of snow . I have a few parts to go on this spring. Nothing too exciting.

Yeah I'm not really in a huge rush to get one. Like I said, it drives, just not great. I'm kinda just poking around trying to find something, but not really serious yet. It'll probably be a bit before I actually do get one.

lol yeah. Don't care to post anymore. Pretty funny that my thread was barely down the list.

Also I'm selling it cause I've just lost interest. I want a missile car so I can learn to drift. It sucks but I just don't care to put the money into the car any more.

Hi all.

It's been great, but last night I sold my CL-S. Been a long run with her but time to move on (finally). Probably looking to get something like a 240 (S14). Thanks for all your help over the past six years. I'm sure I'll make a new thread eventually for whatever next car I get.

Can a mod please close/delete the thread? Whatever is easier for you.
