My SRS light came on last week and I took it to the dealer on Monday. They reset it and told me that electronic interference can cause it (from cell phone or sitting a laptop on the passenger seat). The problem is with the sensor in the back of the passenger seat. This has been discussed on this forum before and I know a number of people have had the sensor replaced. My dealer (Montgomeryville Acura) says that Acura tells the dealer to reset the SRS light the first time it happens and if it happens again to replace it (based on a particular diagnostic code). They even gave me a printout that was directly from Acura stating the above.

Anyway, while I'm glad they didn't pull my seat apart to replace the sensor I'm just waiting for the day when it comes back on again. I feel like it's only a matter of time.

One of the things that printout from Acura said was that using a cell phone charger (plugged into the accessory outlet in the center console) can cause this interference that turns the SRS light on. I did have a charger plugged in there all the time. So, I've decided to disconnect it for now. I used to use the passthrough to the cup holder to charge my cell phone.

Here's the printout from Acura that I scanned in...

I just took mine in on Tuesday for this problem. They reset the system and told me that there's a service bulletin coming out soon about this very isue. They didn't have the parts to do the fix per the service bulletin, but they got the light to turn off. They told me that if it comes on again, give them a call and bring it back in for the real fix. Well, it came back on yesterday, so I'll be giving them another call.

Ok I got it done today finally, took them all day, they had the car from 73am till 545pm. They actually replaced the entire upright piece of the passenger seat. I know this because they left a box with the old one laying in the back of my car.

Well, my light came back on today. So I've got to call the dealer tomorrow to make an appointment for them to tear my passenger seat apart to replace the sensor.

way to bump a 10 year old thread! this has been discussed probably 100 times since that posting 10 years ago, look around.

FWIW, take it to a dealer, it's a known TSB that 99% of the time is covered at no cost and you won't have to worry about doing it yourself or screwing up your restraint system further in the event something else is wrong besides what's outlined in the TSB.

Its actually nine years old.

But I'm glad he bumped it - I am having the same issue. Thanks for the link! I will also take Austin's advice and have Acura check it out.

I had this problem for awhile and took it the dealer and they said it was under warranty. They replace both my seat belt bucks and the light is now. I was anxious to get this done because my air would not deploy if I happen to get in an accident . I was very pleased that it didn't cost me a dime.

Depends on why the light came on. If you were messing around and it came on, you can use the paperclip method to reset it.
If you reset it and the light comes back then you'll need to go to the dealership to find the problem. My dealership charges me a diagnostic fee of 110 dollars to check the SRS light so I reset the light until I figured out what the problem was. It was a faulty setbelt buckle so the dealership replaced it for free.
