Hey, buddy, I'm staring to worry about you... I've been marching on the "factory cooler" parade for so long that my web-shoes are web-socks.
One of n threads...
http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...ghlight=cooler
I even remember you said it was hot WITH the additional cooler!
So, IMO, the stock cooler is a joke...
So, that leaves the "how much heat can be removed from the transmission" -- hey?
1. Add some temp. sensors (you have a manual... hmmm...)
2. Get an IR thermo from Griot's ($99) -- ok, so it doesn't read the internal temps.
3. Get the biggest B&M and dump into a bucket full of ice water and play dyno hero...
--- Finally, MIke B, over at Comptech was not willing to "spill the beans" on the actual tranny temps they measured. He said the engineer with the data was "elsewhere". However, they did make a decision to sell the HIgh Temp Redline, but then they are more concerned (IMO) with the car with S/C....
So, the statement you made is confusing when you mention the "coolant"...
If you are talking about the flow rate and heat capacity of the ATF, why not suggest some no-guess solutions?
Is there any reason you would know that the internal tranny temp sersor could NOT be used?

I could of sworn that Acura has a recall out on all 01-? cl trannys to have a oil jet cooler ionstalled on the tranny, free of charge due to the overheating issue and Acura is extending the warranty on all auto trannys.

I installed a tranny cooler several months ago and I am running fully synthetic
ATF. It s been shifting great so far. Heat kills automatic transmissions. From what I read in my factory service manuall, our trannies have a built in heater so we don't need to worry about them running to cold.

Help with installing a trans cooler in my 2003' CL Type-S
Hi, I am sorry, but I cannot get your link to load up and I would love to install a cooler on my 2003' Acura CL Type-S. Any chance you could be of some help here to me??? Thanks so much, Ray here in Oregon. rraypo@hotmail.com
Below is a link on how to install the Tranny Cooler on your CL-S and how to do a flush of your transmission with what tools you have at home. This method does work but will take some time.
After installing it, I drove the car around for about 15 miles, and noticed that the car shifted much faster, smoother. The car seems to have really liked the new fluid, but also the help of that cooler keeping it cooler. After I got back home, that cooler was extremly hot to the touch. I tried both hoses, the top one which is the HOT in, was VERY VERY HOT, could not keep my finger on it for more than 1 sec, the bottom for at least 3 secs I could hold it on there. It was defintely working.
I hope this convinces alot of others to do this mod, because you need too. Our cars do not have a tranny cooler and the fluid just boils and most likely it causes the tranny to die. It's about a 2-4 hr project.
Enjoy guys, any questions feel free to ask.
Also Soopa, you can put this up on your site if you wish as well. So everyone can link to it, or you can just put the html on your site too, in case I take it down.
