Has anyone used 100 octane gasoline in their TSX???

I saw this option at a 76 station pump in Redwood City, CA...listed as "race fuel" which made me snicker. Heck, might as well called it "Ricky Bobby fuel." It was around $5.60 per gallon...yikes!

So, has anyone used it yet. If so, have you noticed a difference from 91 or 93 octane gas?

That is race fuel, and your engine will see absolutely no usable benefit from it. Drop a big turbo on there and run 15psi and then you might have a use for it. The higher the octane in gasoline, the greater prevention from knock (detonation) you'll have. On a stock engine, you'll pretty much be fine with the rated 91 at high RPMs (or in other situations where combustion temperature is high.)

hey bayarea-er. I live right down the road from that 76 station in RWC. I mixed it(100) with 91 to get about 93 or 95 octane. never used 100 straight-not made of money. I was just curious of the performance too since lots of areas of the US have 95octane at the pump. Difference? very slight. might help someone improve their dyno run numbers.... see https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ghlight=octane

Where is 95 octance sold? I've never heard of it. It seems that depending on geographical area, either 91 or 93 is considered "premium" (it's 93 here in Mass.) and I always assumed that was due to the local blend, but 95 is a new one on me (and it begs the question why, since virtually cars that specify higher octane fuel require 91).

Too much octane will only burn out your wallet. Back in the good old days, high octane
race fuel had lead additives which will contaminate catalytic converters. I'm pretty sure no leaded gas can be found on the street anymore. You might be able to find leaded at some race tracks like Road America - if they are following the law, the nozzle will be too big in diameter to fit in the gas tank pipe.

Did anyone notice any differences b/w 91/93/95 and 100 Octane on their car? The most common in GTA is 91, and only Sunoco has 94. I would like to know if it's make any differences on TSX, on road or on dyno.

I'm pretty sure the TSX is tuned conservatively at 93 octane, and I doubt you're going to see engine knock at 91/93 octane. On a stock TSX, you're probably going to see no usable benefit or increase on that 100 octane gas other than the weight reduction of some cash in your wallet.

The ECU dynamically re-learns the envelope it can operate in as you drive. Certain variables such as air temperature, the pre-detonation resistance of the fuel you use and how hard you mash on the gas pedal will slowly alter it's parameters as to achieve the most efficient conversion of gas to forward motion it can manage. That said, there is not a limitless window of adjustments it can make and I would wager any potential gains from 100 octane fuel are out of reach to the stock ECU or even the mechanical constraints of the engine.

Agreed. There is probably a .00001% chance that Honda/Acura included a 100 Octane map in the ECU of TSXs. 100 Octane will likely see zero benefit.

On the other hand, I have seen measurable performance and fuel economy dropoffs when using 87 in my TSX vs. the 91.

but i was reading on hondata.. since i just got that. and they say if u use a higher octane you'll get better performance.. for a dyno.. something about less change of loosing some torque?

If you have a K-Pro, with a High Octane mapping, then yes, it will help. The general Acura OEM ECU or Hondata reflash does not cover this, as it's not programmable.

i mixed it on my car to, had half tank of shell 93 and added 4 gallons of 100. my engine is bone stock, no intake or exhaust.
but i only did it cause its smells sooooo good. i didn t notice any performance gains

I can also say I noticed a huge difference in my TSX when the douche at Valero put regular in my car instead of premium. Going from 4th to 5th at 80mph, I couldn't even maintain speed with it floored. 5th was pretty much useless

Filled up on Sunoco 93 for the next tank and it drove perfectly again.

Never knew gas could make such a huge difference until then.

I mix unleaded race gas at the race track with 91.

About 3 gallons for a full tank.

The race gas will act as a safety margin when it comes to knock and detonation
