I don't know.. I thought weight was the #1 enemy for acceleration...

Correctamundo, Amigo.... that's why a lighter car with less horsepower can get the jump on a heavier car with more hp.

But after the initial inertia is overcome and they get rolling, and the wind resistance kicks in, the lighter cars advantage diminishes.

Good example of lighter being quicker is motorcycles.

Actually, Car and Driver reports 0-60 in 5.7 and 14.4 sec and 99 MPH for a stock TL.

Some of members that know how to drive better than the old ladies at C&D do even better than that. With a couple of tweaks, they have a chance at <14 and >100.

That's what I'm talking about! I remember, as a child, reading about certain muscle cars, stock that could break under 15 and over 90. That was F.A.S.T. We're talking 389 and 396 ci big V8s with monster 4 bbl carbs.... and 5.0 Mustang GTs.

Just to be mentioned in the same breath with those cars is flattering to me. When my "Japanese" 4-dr family sedan can get within fractions of a second of a C5 Corvette 0-60, that blows me away. Just think of what it does to the 'Vette driver who smuggly gives you a three car handicap. He's gonna see nothing but tail lights.

This isn't the time or place to get into it, but if you check the April 04 issue of Road & Track (it's online), you will see an Acura TL OUT-HANDLE at BMW 530i with the sports package (tires/wheels/shocks/suspension). Faster slalom, more gs, much more power.... with the editorial comment that both had moderate understeer.

Having sworn allegiance at the RWD altar, those writers have made the TL the car they hate to love but can't help themselves.

Sorry.

My car when stock did 15.7 at 86 deg F. After modifications and before hondata, I was able to do a 15.3~15.2. Currenlty I known it's faster, maybe a 14.8~14.9 but no less than that.

I didnt realize that 0-60 in 5.7 was supposed to be really close to 4.7.

I think I should return my C5 and use my TL Aspec for races.

It's all relative. The 'Vette is, of course faster. But the difference is much less than most cars. Depending on who's reporting, .8 to a little over a second 0-60.

That's all other things being equal.... which they never are. Put a skinny kid with 2 gals of gas in the TL who knows how to drive and then put a 300 lb guy with a full tank in the 'Vette..... the difference would be less.

When we're talking about 1 sec. or less, a quick reaction time and a good hole shot could make a big difference.

The TL is never going to beat a 'Vette, but it's totally capable of frustrating the shit out of it because it's so unexpected to perform at all. I mean, it's a 4 door sedan with a 3.2L 6 cyl engine from Japan (well...). The C5 is a 5.7L and much lighter.... and, it's a world class sports car.

I'm not taking anything away from the 'Vette. I love them. It's a little hard to take another couple out to dinner and then pick up some groceries on the way home. Totally different cars. That's why I say that it's flattering to get within a second of a fine car like that.

I see your point, but getting within 1 second of 0-60 is not close at all.

That's worse than being within 1 second of the 1/8, which we know is not close.

Nice time I would like to know the year of your car unless its posted, and I missed it. However, the fastest TSX I found online with picture proof is a stock TSX (2008) doing 14.9 seconds flat on the 1/4. My friend said, that TSX coulda been "Freaked" meaning the car came with more HP than it was suppose to. Errm. I guess. I'll go look for the page and repost!
