1996 TL on 20's (Done Correctly)

What's up Acura Zine. That first post was made by someone new to forums.....so here are better and more recent pics of the car. (those pics were maybe 5 years old) Current "mods" are mostly exterior...but include Clear corners and turn signals, replaced all the gold emblems with chrome ones, 20 inch chrome rims, body painted "mud flaps" and "skirts", and of course...removed the vents. Interior is pretty stock, except for the 8.3 inch in dash head unit, and the 15" kickers in the trunk. Hoping to find SOMEBODY who can clue us in on where to find a Lamboghini style door kit for this car, but right now it seems NOBODY knows where to find a kit or how do it....so any advice is appreciated!

Looks like ass. 20" rims do not belong on these bodies. If you want them along with a vertical door kit, go make your own, but please do it on a different car. 3.2s are rare enough as it is, and we don't need more of them destroyed in this manner. Hell, I'd buy the car from you to save it from being molested further.

The deck you have is a Power Acoustik, I'm sure, and I'm also sure that your Kickers are the only other amp'd speakers in the car. Back to the wheels, you probably lifted the car to fit them in, and probably with blocks or spacers in the spring. It is typical, and I highly doubt I'm wrong on any of these points.

~Cheers~

Well, seeing as though, I paid for my car I think I reserve the right to do whatever the fuck I want to it. Secondly, The Kicker Subs are amp'ed, so are the in-doors. But aye, opinions are like assholes....

Imo, rims are nice i see you got a little dish going on, but 20" on this car donesen't flow. One because if you compare it to stock your ride looks lifted. I tested out some 17's with 235/45 tires & noticed a lift & that was only on 17's i cant imagine 20's. Plus like i said in your 1st post, i dont think this car can push those wheels easily your gonna stress out a transmission that is well built & run it to the ground man!. You can drive the crap out of this engine & tranny daily and have it last a loooooong time. But once u throw dubs on there, over time the car starts to take a crap on you early..

Body is nice tho, paint looks good..

Oh yeah, & no lambo doors dude, seriously.

Had 20's on it for 4 years...this is the second set. Sold the first set a while back. But no transmission or engine issues yet. Car runs fine.

Shit, that's between you and the mods.... I like 20's, I like Loud Music, and I like watching tv in my car... and I can afford it... So trust me....you can't possibly hurt my feelings with your valueless opinion...

My prediction was spot on, again. To fit the 20s he used spacers in the springs to lift the car and have the wheels clear.

Why is it that every time one of your people gets negative feedback on anything they do, it's automatically "You hatin' cuz you can't afford it."

I could give two shits less about the feelings of some POS who has a typical case of "look-at-me" syndrome. Great, you can afford a Power Acoustik for $300. You think you're the only one with an in-dash?

Please.

~Cheers~

P.S. You say that my opinion is valueless. Fine if you feel that way, but I can tell you that my take on your car is probably shared by most of the members here.

Lol, who said you were hatin'? Who said you can't afford it? You spoke for ya'self... When you use quotation marks you should probably be quoting somebody....not speaking for ya'self. I just said I could care less about your opinion.... As far as your "observations" go.... There's really only 1...maybe 2 ways to fit 20's on a TL, you guessed right... and Hmmm, how many companies make 8" in dashes that fit in 1st Gen TL's....nice work detective.

It's just a typical response. Look up "Car Show TL", the last guy with 20's and Lambo doors. He was laughed off the boards.

That's him...if he's so weak as to let somebody "laugh" him off a board then poor him. It's typical for YOU maybe...since you said it....but I could care less what YOU can afford or what YOU like. Like I said...I spend my money as I please....at no point do I worry about what some guy(s) in a forum will think. Otherwise I would have just followed suit and done the "norm".... You like ya 17's....I like my 20's....should I tell you how ass I think your car looks? Don't think so...cause guess what, I don't have to drive it.... so I don't give a shit...

And I personally don't think I was "bragging" when I mentioned my in dash or my rims....just listing mods....and future mods.... Bragging about in dashes was something to do in the 90's, now it's a factory option in cars sooooooo...yeah...get off it. Sorry if my car and I offended you and your TL elitist style...lmfao...

Doesn't look that bad, I've seen much much bad things done to cars. Kudos for at least taking those fender vents off.

OP, the car itself doesnt look terrible. just lose the gaudy chrome wheels and the front plate.

if they were nice 20s it probly would look less repulsive. right now they are like what you see on Pimp My Ride and that kind of car culture is attractive to people who dont actually know anything about cars.

i mean imagine your car on some nice Volks or something along that line... with no fender gap.

i dunno man...you say you got the money so why not go VIP? then the lambo doors that you want wont be ridiculed as much since you have the fitment to back it up.

im just sayin your car has potential. dont ruin it.

Wow...go90go...thank you for sharing. you've been holding out on us! your grill looks great...s2k wheels look beautiful.
since you guys are showing major love for each other, I personally have to say that John, your car is clean, and I personally went for a set of 17's so if you like your 20's then that's your own personal style! To each his/her own.

As far as this ^^^ goes....personally I don't like it. But am I gonna go on talking shit about it like a pre-pubescent school bully picking on the new kid. Naw, not my style... But hey, as this thread has already illustrated...everybody is different...

I'm not surprised though. I've been on tons of car forums over the years...and there's always THAT guy.... who thinks his car is THE car...and THAT guy always has his own little fan club within the forum...THAT'S typical... Guess we should all mod our cars the same way to appease the car god's.... I will start the modding TONIGHT....IT WILL DECIMATE ALL, after we put about 10 grand in it and if we have to....overnight parts from Japan....

Some friendly advice on things to help you and other communicate better. You should know when starting a thread asking question's that may seem strange to other as in Lambo door which I myself don't see why you would do so on a 4 door vehicle besides that people tend to get a little touchy and state their opinions. As you (OP) of this thread, you will realize that not everyone's reply is going to be what you would like to hear, take it as it comes. I wouldn't get worked over what others say, at the end of the day it's your vehicle you do what makes you happy.

The flip side of this is, being young and owning an older vehicle and I say this with the best of interest here but the best thing to do is not invest a lot of money into something this old. Let's say you dropped 15k into this vehicle and all of it being strickly aftermarket things, then one day someone hit's your car. Insurance says the damages on the vehicle is enough to make it totaled.. Think about it.. not much is needed to total out a 15 year old vehicle, and besides your money could be used for something much better then a 15 year old car.

Going back to everything you said from your last thread to now I will answer your questions and responses like an adult to you so please don't take offense. If your TL is worth 6K I want you to understand what the cost of things will be.

-To get Lambo doors installed correctly and a LEGIT kit which won't damage your car everytime you open and close your doors will run you approx. $500-1000 on average. you could also get this cheaper or more expensive depending on how correct you want to do this, which I suggest doing it right the 1st time.

-Running 22 inch wheels, again it's an idea but not a good one because of the follow..
You will lose the ability to turn all the way from side to side.
You have a higher chance of rubbing on the fenders, splash shields, strut/suspension and damaging important components such as steering rack and tie rods.
You now throw the calibration off of the ABS unit and speed sensor. In an event you need to use ABS, the system may not function correctly or function at all.

How would a TL look like with 22's, well nothing on a 1st gen but you can have an idea with a 2nd gen

A little knowledge about wheels. Anyone can buy just about some type of weak offset, one size fits any vehicle wheels for cheap. If you have correct wheels installed, it should clear your brakes if not your offsets are weak and wrong. Greater offset wheels = more $$. For most newer vehicles that have BBK's from factory (big brakes) including a lot of us with 3GTL's the "Cheap" wheel isn't cutting it. What would be a reasonble cost on wheels if your going for a good look would run approx $1,700-2,500. If you consider yourself a baller and want some real wheels like Volks, Works, leon hardritt, maya, LM ect.. New these are usually about 700-1000+ each wheel, plus you have to wait 2-4 months to get them because they are made just for you the way you want them. Now if you can't afford those but want them anyway then you go to http://www.vrwheels.com/

Understand and again don't take offense to this but honestly I doubt anyone is hating or jealous about your TL, not over something that is 15 years old. It's a nice car minus the wheels but I don't think these guys have much of a passion to jump into a 96 TL. For those few guys that actually bought Balling wheels new, I probably kid you not that their wheels alone = the cost of your car. I don't want you to get upset but understand that just because most don't have chrome wheels doesn't mean they aren't "ballin". If you have the time reasearch the few that have dropped 5-7K in body work to fit aggresive wheels which cost another 5-6K with tires and another 7K in airbag suspension. That my friend is to only fit wheels..

So, it's up to you and your pocket ($$) on what you want to do with your car. Be aware your not going to have everyone like your style, and you might not like others as well. When your young it's nice to have a decent to nice car but in the end and trust me on this MOST GIRLS don't care what you drive because at the end of a date taking them back to YOUR OWN PLACE is much more attractive then rolling up with a benz then driving back to your parents house for the night. Food for though buddy, invest a small amount in your TL, and invest more into something else. Oh BTW, why not ask your cousin to make his own account or you make a different account? This whole back and forth thing doesn't present itself to others well.

Best advice I've ever read on here.

The wheels don't bother me as much as the front vanity plate.

As far as "...and that kind of car culture is attractive to people who dont actually know anything about cars." goes posted by 03tLsNBP, well that's a pretty ignorant thing to say.
