Custom intake

just curious on thoughts, opinions about this idea.

CP-E is about $300 shipped. I was thinking about custom making a 3" CAI with this.

100-300 - AIRAID , Universal Tube Piping
9601 - AIRAID , Universal Tube w/Maf Plate MAF

good idea? bad idea? just curious, haven't pulled the trigger yet. if anything ill just throw a K&N filter in for now.

Most air intake systems are engineered for specific engines. They take into account MAF housings, air velocity, and fitment. I would personally stick with a manufactured system like the K&N.

I made my own intake. its kinda like the cpe intake. Working well for me. I machined the maf sensor part and my father in law welded it for me.

thats pretty cool man, but i don't have all that equipment to make a CAI, but that looks pretty sweet! nice job.

very nice. bet it was a hell of a lot cheaper to do it yourself. i'm getting ready to make a few in a 3.5 inch for some people i'm going to mock it all up in a similar fashion then have someone else do the welding because i am not on point with making the welds look good enough yet. structurally sound yes but ugly.

they are close to being maxed out in terms of the sensor in the 3 inch housing which is why i made a 3.5 inch housing unless they are willing to retool for 6-12 intakes its custom or die

Mmmk, I got my suggestion from Full-Race as you all know from my previous post in the pass for my new EFR. But, who cares right...

"3.5" MAF Intake

The stock MAF uses only 3" piping (2.75" ID) and runs out of airflow headroom at low HP levels. Full-Race's EFR kit uses what we feel is the optimal solution for this - a true 3.5" MAF intake that can accurately and efficiently meter air at high horsepower levels and *does not need a recirc BOV* due to the EFR's integrated compressor bypass valve."

wasn't looking to spend 3k on a entire kit. i was curious about intakes only because i find that they are one of the best mods for any car that I've owned, not only for a little noise but also like that it give a bit more power and helps with gas. But i must say i like that EVO .
